Quick spring question

Featured Replies

My car had another clunking fit today over the speed bumps at work, after weeks/months of hardly anything!

I had a quick look, and i noticed the one spring doesn't seem to be seated 100% right... theres an indent and a sticking up bit in the spring cup on the strut I assume the end of the spring sits up against. On my drivers side, its about 1-2 cm shy of sitting nicely there but the passenger side (the one that actually did the clunking this morning) is sat nice and flush up against it.

First of all, is this normal? Second of all... could the springs moving slightly cause my clonking?

Just to recap, this has been happening to me for over a year now... replaced front and rear wishbone bushes, drop links, arb bushes, top mounts and bearings and I still occasionally get random clunks! This morning it clunked differently over each of the speed bumps, on the way home (despite my trying) it refused to make a single noise!

My passenger side spring snapped quite close (few CM's) away from the top and clunked a lot. Might be worth checking the end of the spring, ensure it's rounded and not all rough which it would be if it snapped and some fell off.

Had a good feel of both springs, all ends seem smooth and cut off... no jaggedness or pointy bits.

I get the feeling that maybe when skoda fitted the new top mounts the guy didn't seat it perfectly :( probably nothing to do with my clonking
