My Furby's Number Plates Got Stolen Last Night

Featured Replies

If people knicking plates is a problem' date=' is it not about time the manufacturers came up with a new system of getting a license plate fitted to a car. Personally I think a cool 21st century way, would be to have the part where the license plates fix to, to be a TFT display protected by a tough bit of glass or clear polymer. When you switch the ignition on it comes on and takes the license plate number from the on-board computer and displays it on the TFT display in the standard DVLA approved spec. etc. I don't think reading it should be a problem, most TFT displays are wide angle enough. Somebody trying to steal would have a bit of a nightmare as it is integrated into the car.

Nice idea, but how would the law get your number when the car was parked, if you were commiting an offence?

(thinks -Hmmmm, now there's an idea.......)

Again nice idea... But at a price, and when parked up wave goodbye to your battery

are people not forgetting - your license plate number is etched on your windows aswell!!!!!!!

and when you are parked up - it's not draining the battery its switched off!!!!

And of course you can read the license plate number etched on your window from a distance

Face it, it wouldnt work.

And if you have some sunlight shining on the plate, it would be pretty much unreadable. Which would also mean that most Gatso's wouldn't be able to take a picture of it.

Rob.

Nowt wrong with the idea - you dis it, but it'll be on cars before long. I either heard of Japanese car manufacturers toying with the idea some time ago, or I got the idea from a film.

TFTs are also lower powered than you think - so battery drain won't be that much. Car manufacturers are already looking at adding extra power systems for ICE and the like, so I would figure it would be part of that.

However, there's nothing to stop car manufacturers making the license plate area recessed, making it more difficult for those scumbags trying to get a plate off a car.

I didn't think anyone on this forum would object if a gatso couldn't take a pic of their plate.

One of my mates had his plates knicked off his Octy L&K at a service station. While he was talking to the police about it, his wife was being told by others that he was involved in an armed robbery. :D
