SWING radio VW Equivalent

Featured Replies

I took delivery of my brand new Superb Greenline yesterday. I want to try and get a DAB radio in my car as tidyly as possible. I have read on other posts that the Columbus radio is the same as another type of VW radio which accepts their dab receiver add on. So was wondering if anyone out there knows if the Swing radio fitted in the Superb has a VW equivalent so I can may be see if the DAB plugs in.

Cheers in advance.

The swing, as far as I am aware is unique to the Superb. I am not sure why you want DAB, unless its to listen to a station that does not broadcast on FM. DAB in a car is very patchy, and in week signal areas barely works at all. I abandoned having DAB in my old Octavia as I got fed up with the poor sound quality (128K or less MP2) is far worse than an equivalent MP3 at the same bitrate (1980s encoding) technology and the constant dropouts bugged me. What I dont get is why when the rest of the EU is dumping DAB the UK is proceeding to introduce an inferior system.

Thanks for the reply mannyo, I have had a DAB in my vehicles for 7 - 8 years and the reception on my everyday route has been top quality. I listen to the Cricket on 5 LIve Sports Extra, radio 5live and 6music. All digital only. I also think it is bizarre and they seem pretty dead set on making it work. Looks like I will have to shell out on a new Head unit.

At last, someone who knows the truth about one of these new glorious techs.

Take HDTV for instance, my CRT TV can be viewed at any angle, picture is clear and it does what it says on the tin, HD however, must sit right, wrong angle and everything has a matt effect around it, I think these were simply introduced for their profile rather than improved picture.
