Rust!

Featured Replies

The old dear has an 07 plate Vrs se and there's rust starting to appear already!!!! It's starting to come in around the rubber stoppers on the boot lid, on the outer edges. I was just wondering if anyone had this problem and if it's covered under the anti perforation warranty??

Plus the car is only out of warranty a month or so ago.

This is really early to be showing signs of rust. Do you live near the coast or something? :wonder:

I'm not entirely sure how the anti-perforation warranty works or if it's something most people could ever effectively claim on. There's probably some condition about having to have an inspection every-so-often and having any repair work done by the dealers.

Take it to your dealer ASAP an dhave them look at it. On our last Furby estate we had the hatch tlid repaired, and then replaced under the anti perforation warranty when it was about 8 years old.

Awesome. Thats good news.

I've asked the question to what extent are skodas galvanised a few times ( incl.emails to Skoda cust.services ) but have never had any reply . Judging by the number of rust reported problems the complete body is certainly not zinc coated. Even VW no longer advertise that VW bodies are completely zinc coated.

I'd expect that they are dipped after built up as body with doors/hatches/bonnets. If its any comfort, my wife's 2003MY Polo 1.4SE, is rusting at one or two or three points on the exterior body shell - and not due to damage or stone chips. Also the lower inside edge of the rear hatch is a bit of a mess and not due to leaking washer pipes etc - its just down to bad protection, bad design at that point and because any squared off car will "suck in" any thing that it is driving through - salt + dirt + water, as it drives along. Clinched joint sealers and zinc and anti-rust injection should have prevented this happening !

I'd guess the answer to that is more like a "cold" region where salt gets laid down a lot - well until it ran out!
