Plastic Carpet Rivet Thingys

Featured Replies

After cleaning my seats, carpets, headliner and, well, everything, I can still smell this wierd whiff. I've narrowed it down to the carboard backing under the boot carpet. It's obviously got wet at some point and rotted. I have taken the carpet out in order to remove the cardboard and give it a good sanitising, but I cant figure out how to get the plastic rivets out without damaging them. Is it possible to remove and re-use them, or will I need to buy new ones? If new ones are needed, is there a part number for them, or does anyone know where I can get them from? Thanks ;)

grr to the rescue ;)

Just destroy them and buy some new ones mate.

use a pair of decent wire cutters and cut off above

the coned threaded bit but below the "disky" bit.

They are thinnest there and should cut easily.

If you try and unccrew them they just spin right??

They are designed to be diffficult to remove but easty to fit

with a tapered conical screw thread.

I had a broken one in my car and it had to be forcibly unscrewed

gripping and pulling it with pliers as I unscrewed. It left a quite big hole.

That's why I say cut them.

TOP TIP!

Just mark where the holes are with a marker pen as you remove each of the 8

so that tyou can fit he new clips in exactly the same place.

( I'd do that after the carpet was back in if it was me so mark the top of the carpet too)

They're 20p each from any skoda main dealer,

(Mine weren't in stock but only took 2days to come..)

Part number 3D0 864 851 01C

Just one question though....why mark the holes with a marker pen when there are already holes in the carpet?

I fitted a set of mats to the Mrs Grrs Fabia as her car didnt have any mats at all originally.

So in her case there weren't any holes to go by.

I just thought they might close up if you are washing the carpet

right out and may get lost in the pile... Just a fail safe really.

Ah ok, fair enough. It's just the boot carpet, I'm wanting to clean the cardboard sheet that covers the spare wheel.

It's the wrong part, what I got were the plastic screws that keep the floormats attached. I need some of them anyway so got them, but the dealer cant find what I'm looking for. The diagram on the computer shows the cardboard that goes over the spare wheel and the carpet above, but doesnt show the plastic clips that hold them together. They are going to to try and find out, knackered if they cant get them cos I've cut the ones I had lol :(
