Nitrous? Ths conrods and Mahle OE forged pistons?

Featured Replies

i've been looking around for my next mods and am thinking of any of the above...do any members have any experience with nitrous on the 1.8t,is it a waste of time and money,or an addictive hoot that will see me getting the bottle refilled every week? i know if i go nitrous the clutch wont live long,so maybe the diff and spec clutch from the states would be a good option. i've also had a look on THS' website for con rods(they're under £400 a set) and they say the 1.8t has mahle forged pistons as standard. it does'nt say what engine code though.it also says the rods can take upto 600bhp....sounds like bull to me tbh. i may also go for some cams if the funds will stretch.my car already has a phase 2,forge dv and fmic, milltek tb,panel filter.wietecs.and gsf drilled discs with black diamond predator pads. just incase anyone was thinking of asking whats on it at the mo....

Nitrous is pointless IMO. You might as well put the money towards a hybrid turbo, then you get all that extra power ALL of the time instead of just in 5 second bursts

If you're on about uprating the rods and pistons just go the whole hog and put a big turbo on there as well ;)

It's the torque that destroys the bottom end, not the bhp. IIRC about 300ft/lbs of torque or over and bits will break, as has happened to 1 or 2 cars running big turbos on here.

10K should sort it out....

a cr turbos ko3s hybrid is nearly £600 ish plus mapping for 20bhp max.theres no point unless its a ko4 hybrid.then it will need the rods for sure. 10k is a bit much, you can get some great turbo kits from the us for $2300,diff $700,spec clutch $649,internals $1100,it dont need to cost much more than £5k. from where i am now.

20bhp what you talking about ???

a stage2 k03s with your mods will be no more than 230bhp

a hybrid with your mods should see 270-280bhp

thats 40-50bhp across the rev range not peak

some hybrid manufacturers are more optimistic than others, turbo dynamics told me there ko3s hybrid wouldnt make more than 260-270 bhp.a few tuners have backed this up when they've had them on there rollers to. its almost like a lottery. my car ran 239 bhp and 279lbs/ft at p torque, that was in december though,so it was only 4 degrees outside. westallc did you have this set up for sale with manifold recently, was it any good, if anyone could guarantee me 280 bhp from a hybrid i would buy it now. its still £1100 plus mapping for a st2 hybrid though.not cheep.

people running 290+ with wmi ;)B) ( seatcupra.net)

look at the full graph with the hybrid not just peak figure

im running 260bhp with 300lbft on k03s hybrid with FMIC, exhaust system, bigger injectors etc. thats on standard mani, with a better mani and induction kit id be seeing 270+

thats on a cr turbo hybrid

Hi Mark

If your running a KO3s turbo then NOS would prob cause loads of problems for little or no benefit.

One reason NOS is used on turbo engines is to "wake up" large turbo's.

For what its worth......my guess would be that NOS would cause a KO3s to overspeed and have huge boost spike's.

But dont let a miserable old bu**er like me put you off.....its always nice to see someone try something different

Bill.

i was hoping that a few people on here would say go for it,you wont regret it.a nitrous kit is about £700 plus fitting and map tweeks,so about the same as a good hybrid setup.does anyone know about this piston issue,i cant see my car having mahle forged pistons from the factory.i spose i'll find out when i take it apart.thanks for the replies guys.

nitrous is a no no ( its crap)

also did you know its illegal to have a nos bottle in the open position while driving on public road??

Its just that the most expensive parts of a big turbo conversion will be uprating everything to cope with it, pistons, rods, clutch, brakes etc etc, the cost of a bigger turbo and manifold to suit is only a small part of the whole thing. So if you are planning on uprating all those things like rods etc. for the purpose of fitting nitrous, you might as well spend the nitrous money on a bigger turbo instead

If you can stretch to a spare K03S turbo in case the NOS damages the original one then by all means give it a go. If it doesn't pan out you can put the other turbo on and sell the NOS gear.

if your looking at spending thatmuch you could just get a BAM engine out of a cupra r and a map thatll cost you less then 5k! you will get 280bhp easy
