Featured Replies

Hi,

Im looking to get into the diesel scene. The fabia VRS is the car that im going to be looking at buying. Just want to pick up some information from you guys/girls about what to look for in a VRS and what sort of power I can get out of the motor :)

Thanks

Rich

Hi mate,

Where abouts are you from, Im west mids to!?

Ive just brought a fabia vrs myself, however i have been looking for over half a year, so I think I know the things you need to check for.

Firstly, obvious things, like any second hand car. FSH, well maintained, the right part replacements within the time allocated by Skoda (cambelt, clutch etc.), tyre treads etc etc.

Fabia Vrs specific:

Leaking rear doors: the seals are known to be cr*p so check the footwells for any sign of damp.

Front bushes: I may of learnt this the hard way! Mine is currently squeaking over bumps and such. This could be due to heat and lack of moisture, but reading around, it seems a common problem for them to wear quickly!

Interior maintenence: The seats are a nightmare! They attract dirt! They are easy to clean, but a Vrs with dirty seats is a good indicator to how well its been looked after imo (this has been refered to before by another member).

Standard Vrs's seem to be RR'd at around 140bhp after they have been run in (5-10% more than stated). The stated 229lb/t seems a little on the safe side aswell :)

0-60, 0-100, 50-70 times are highly debated about these cars. People record times for 0-60mph anywhere from 7.5 up to 9.5! In all honesty, who cares! Mid range punch is what this car excells at, so on a test drive put it in 3rd going 30mph and floor it. It should pull like a train! if it doesnt, leave it well alone. The power will kick in at about 1900rpm, and last through until 3.5-4000rpm. If your used to driving petrols, this will be VERY strange for you!

Vrs's are also highly tuneable being turbo'd. Just a remap can put you into bhp figures of 170+, but beware for your clutch and gearbox, as the torque will also increase a considerable amount; 280lb/t+ ! Well over 200bhp and 300lb/t is easily achieveable with the money. Popular mods can be found on this website, with guides on how to do it yourself; they are a helpful bunch. However, if you want a faster car, i'd advise just buying one!

Hope this helped, any questions dont hesitate to get in touch :)

Jack.
