I was thinking of a red moving one for the centre grill!

On a more serious note, with the lower grill inserts colour coded it should blend nicely, what primer did you use on yours?

Hi Carl,

Hope this helps.

I bought a set of 5 LED DRL from Halfords at £19.99. I have stuck them using gorilla tape into the same parts of the grill as you have done.

I have used F21 in the fusebox on the r/h side of the engine. this has come out into a fuesholder with a 5A fuse which then feeds the DRL. The yellow wire is for the 12v suply to my 13 pin socket for the caravan.

Where did you get that Fuse Holder from? Halfrauds?

I used Plastikote Plastic Primer (2 Coats iirc) then 4 coats of Race Blue Paint followed by 2 Coats of Lacquer.

Tom, am I right in thinking that the yellow wire is nothing to do with the DRL's then?

Carl,

The fuse holder is one I had in stock - I'm an engineer and I used to install equipment on to tractors and combines. You could probably get them from

Here

Pagey - yes, correct the yellow wire is for the power supply to the caravan.

BTW - I have not used a relay due to the lack of current that the LED's draw. If I had been fitting spotlights I would have done as they ca draw serious amounts of current so it's safer. The 5A fuse I have in the line is more than adequate for these LED'S.

Tom

arent these gonna be very bright at night???

Factory fit DRL's dim when headlights are on...

Having trouble with the link mate.

I was thinking about fitting an on/off switch because of this.

I have been beside a VRS with factory fit DRL on and they are approx. half brightness. At night not a problem, never been flashed and done about 5000 miles on them and not been pulled by PC Plod.

The lights are also EC marked and are sold as road legal.

"Having trouble with the link mate"

Fixed a typo on my behalf, sorry.

LOL Patience young man. As i said the Sealant will take a good 18hours to dry and then the Painting is going to be another couple of days so your looking around the weekend

:)

Out of interest, do you have any pics of the those colour-coded grills on the car (prior to light fitting)?

Looks like a good subtle mod to do.

That looks superb. Might have to ah... borrow that idea. Like the colour-coded upper grill surround too.

I'm considering painting the lower grilles gloss black like the r-line Audis.

Looking forward to seeing pics of the DRLs fitted, should look quite cool :)

When did you colour code the grille surround? Did Simon come to you for the detail?

  • Author

I've had the grille surround for about 18 months if not longer :giggle:

I did the lower grilles about 2 months after the grille surround

I went to Simon for the detail

So you done the grille before February last year then? Buggeration..........again! I might as well just cut the boot off and respray my car blue. but then it would be slowler. :giggle:

Did Simon photograph the job for Detailing world?

Edit: Found the Detailing World thread, he really does a spanking job, the car looks awesome.
