Owning a 200k Mile Fabia Vrs. REALITY?

Ok so i bought a 2006 fab vrs with 42k on in november, it is now on 70k *gulp* (i do alot of miles)

What is the reality of the car reaching 200k as i plan to keep it for a number of years and my maths has created a figure around this if i continue to do the miles i do!

I assuming that the following things will need replacing

TURBO

CLUTCH

BRAKES

TYRES

BUSHES

but are there any other things i should be aware of....'chocolate cam' for instance?

mines on 153k and has only ever had a new rad :thumbup:

Keep it serviced well and take care of it and theres no reason why not, to add to that list I would guess suspension will need replacing, possibly exhaust I am not a kick in the arse off 140k and 135k has been modified, but always looked after.

Depends how you drive it. My parents' car (neither a Skoda nor a diesel) is up to 192,000 on the original clutch, with no signs of slipping yet..!

Im a 19 year old with a turbo, i would say i drive the car 'spiritedly' from time to time but i never rag the bolts off or hit the red :p

I drive quite slowly in comparision to most I think. Occasionally may give it a blast and redline it just to keep the vnt clear.

I think oil changes are important. I now do it once a month if possible or every 2/3 months at most. So far this year i've done 4 oil and filter changes. I hope all my TLC works in the long term

i do the same but mainly because, i do 10k every 3 months so serviced it is :giggle:

yup just a rad and its still on the orginal clutch and ive done 10k miles in it + a trip to the nurburgring with 2 laps there and a rolling road day no probs at all it has a full service history with skoda 1 owner and ive remapped it as well lovely car as has been said just look after it oil is its blood keep it clean

currently 140k

Remapped for 110k

Standard original clutch and turbo B)

97k same clutch on mine re-mapped from 14k on the clock.

My EGR failed at 90k. I was told be the dealer that they have never seen one that bad before. Probably caused by not enough revs and driving like a grandad.

All about how you drive it. Be kind and it will last longer. Barring having to sell her due to redunancy I will be keep her for many many years to come so I should see a good mileage out of it.

I don't do your miles but also plan to keep.. that's why I'm researching catch cans / tanks to keep the oil vapor from going round the intake system and hopefully allow the turbo to run a bit cleaner and run the whole intake system with a bit less cak flying around.

Mines on 144k. Had a turbo at 123k, but thats it really. Original clutch, but thats fooked, lol

i was quite lucky with mine, its a 54 2005 model and i bought it last april with 28k on the clock. i got 1yr warranty with it, so rinsed it and got a new clutch, release bearing, flywheel, cambelt, water pump and 3 services for free...!

1.4TDI now 130K and still on original front pads and discs. No repairs. Regular service and water pump with cam belt.

I think a well used car is better than one which sits around all week. Had a Corsa 1.5 with Isuzu diesel. Sold at 250K with original clutch.

Fabia better car so expect to keep for many a long year.

G12 antifreeze

Isn't the coolant supposed to be life of vehicle, as it's a sealed system? Unless we're counting very minor, slow leaks akin to a slow puncture? The "replace the coolant" bit in my service book is only for non-G12 coolant (so it says).

IF you are changing the waterpump along with the cambelt then you will need coolant, but all the stuff listed in that post are general maintenance IMHO and should just be taken as a matter of course.

I saw the Fabia vRS on eBay with 265k on it. Awesome.

My local Skoda dealer (Prestige in Coventry) recently had a 1 owner '53 plate vRS in with 176k on it, unsurprisingly they 'couldnt' offer a warranty on the car and wanted 3500 for it (which I thought was steep - but most of their prices are) , Was in good nick too. :thumbup:

My mate at work has a '99 V Golf GTi Turbo which he bought new, and was the car that Revo used as there development mule for re-maps on that engine. He has now covered nearly 205k on original everything - not one major part has been replaced. Just routine service stuff, and coil packs (known fault). (It has a Milltek stainless exhaust - fitted from when car was nearly new). He drives spiritedly - but doesnt boot from cold and as other people have said let the revs build up a bit before flooring it, and he has always used Mobil 1.

So regular oil changes with a good oil, and taking it easy with how the clutch is hammered and you should be able to do mega miles in a VAG vehicle on most major components. (You would hope!)

red or purple coolant should be changed every 4 years. Some say 5 but i think 4 would be better.

With so many threads bemoaning this or that component failing or fault developing on this site, I'm really heartened to read in contrast that so many owners have seemingly racked up stellar mileages without much if any major issues.

Its just the nature of the net I'm afraid, people dont post when theres nothing to tell :D

For the record when my car was new it had uprated Clutch, Exhaust, Turbo and Suspension amongst other things, only after 130k did the turbo go bang and the suspension is a bit tired now, other than that its went fine (Touches wood).
