70 mpg in my Yeti - I don't believe it!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Old fuzzy had a bit of fun with his cruise today :)

17 mile motorway journey on the M53/56 no air con, engine warmed up, set cruise to 50mph on the motorway and reset MDF no stopping or throttle touching.

On the way there MFD showed average speed mph 48, miles 17, mpg 70.1

On the way back average speed mph 48, miles 17, mpg 69.7

Not bad for a 4x4, mind you my normal driving which is a might 'brisk' only gives me an average of 42-43 mpg over the last 4000 miles so shows what you can do when those big bunny feet are kept away from the pedals. :(

WOW, amazing stuff there fuzzybunny.

A lesson for all us heavy footed clods to follow :D

Thanks Macdemon,

Did the same thing again today at 60 mph, results were

On the way there MFD showed average speed mph 57, miles 17, mpg 57.5

On the way back average speed mph 57, miles 17, mpg 55.8

Be interesting to see what other folks get.

:)

Hi!

I can see where I'm going wrong with the right foot now then!!!! Been trying to moderate it and seeing hi 40's now which wasn't too bad on a weekend trip that included Central London. Out of interest were your speeds based on the speedo or sat nav?

Thanks

S

On a completely seperate note, I was vacuuming my office this afternoon and my Dyson blew up and started to smell of burning  :'(

Looks like a new Vacuum cleaner is needed.

Hi Simon,

Speed was set on the speedometer, from the MFD it was reading 2-3mph higer than actual speed.

Mine has done 4000 miles now so that may improve mpg.

Jeeze, really sorry to hear about you Dyson Macdemon perhaps it can be healed, has it got a cruise control?

Cheers, Fuzzy

Recommend "SEBO".

Given the description of your journey, I'd doubt it was operating as anything other than FWD. Despite that, it's still a respectable figure and one that probably wouldn't have been bettered by a similar engined Octavia or Golf.

Goes to prove just how effective "defensive" driving is. That figure is going to take some beating.

Macdemon,

just had to buy some spares for our Dyson, and found a place in Manchester that does refurbed stuff for them. Good prices to!! Think they were called Manchester Vacuum Spares (sorry but I'm at work, so can't check)

Thanks Macdemon,

My 170 seems more economical at 73mph than 60mph. I've only got 650 miles on the clock so it might change.

I'm sure your right.

As I understand it, the default position is 90% drive to the front and 10% rear so there is still something happening along the rear drive shaft but not much.

The slab front must mean a lot of drag but probably not a big deal at 50mph.

In the 1970s oil crisis they used to call it "thrifty fifty", looks like it still applies.

If i went any slower in sixth gear it would be "stally forty" :)

Dyson will do a home call and full service for £69. Worth a try?

I second the "SEBO" suggestion. If you want something that works well and doesn't fall to bits this is the one.

Sebo are pretty good, and they do all the spares for their hoovers for YEARS.

(I mean ALL the spares; even a new mains cable if you were that stupid!!)

Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

We've got a Henry cleaner now :)
