FIRST SERVICE

Featured Replies

Got my Fabia Greenline going in for it's first service tomorrow and wondered... Has anyone else had theirs? (Greenline or not), Did they go to the main dealer? Guessing the answer is yes there, for the first at least, and how much were you charged?

Just looking for insite/opinions and if you were happy with the service, wait, price, etc or dissatisfied in any way.

feel free to name and shame  or big up  your agent as feedback of any kind, is in all our interests!

I will add my own opinion after the occasion. B)

First service is around £200, but certain VW garages are doing Skoda Services less 50%

My local dealer quoted £185 for first service. So I rang other dealers around - they quoted between £92 and £165. At the end, I've chosen one 45 miles away, in Lincoln, based on feedback/reviews (reviews) as well as the quote. They did the job for £100 and I'm pretty happy with their service.

A first service should be just an oil change. It should not cost more than £80-£90 max. A huge amount of money for the simple job being performed. Some will attempt to push up the rate for 'checking the car over'. Which is money for old rope and shouldn't be needed on a new-ish car. Stand your ground.

Adrianh1 is correct. My 1.4TDI PD 80 Estate cost me £76 inc VAT all in at the main Skoda dealer here in Colchester (they originally quoted £80). Oil and filter, and all other fluids checked, and a quick check of the suspension nut torque values to make sure nothing is coming loose, plus a cursory look over the underside for any problems. Feel brake pressure on pedal, check from pad thickness and that's it really unless the customer has complained of some other problem. NO ONE should be charging over £100 for the standard Skoda service.

I would avoid the dealers, at the end of the day they are after your money. I'd go for a Skoda or VAG specialist and save the money. If you don't have any warranty work I'd avoid the dealers. They put 15-40 cheap oil in mine, charged me for refilling the water!

Fab, I stuck to my Skoda main dealer simply because they were the best for service I've ever experienced, and the cheapest too! Good combination I thought. The independents wanted between £130 and £145 for a first service. Plus one of them was quoting the use of a semi synthetic oil in a PD engine, and it didn't meet the VW standard!!:o. In my experience it's a mixed bag and a shot in the dark with the independent specialists. Not all of them seem to know how to treat your engine. On the other hand if you know of one you can trust and his price is good then go for it.

If you go to a reputable VAG/Skoda specialist then it should be better than a dealer. I was going to go to a specialist but in the end had to go to the dealer for some warranty work so might as well get them to service. (If I went somewhere else toservice I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have done the warranty work without charging as the dealer asked me if I was having a service as well) When I looked at the piece of paper the dealer gave me after the service I could have done a lot of the checks myself, such as checking tyre depth, refilling water, checking lights, etc.

Fab...I agree the independents should be better than the main dealer especially on price. But I found that although they charge a bit less for the hourly rate, they seem to do a lot of unnecessary work. The £130 and £145 quoted by independent VAG specialists for my first service is way too much. Being ex tech I asked them what they did on a first service for my motor and it was way too much and some of it not specified by Skoda UK. That's clearly how they make their money. My Skoda dealer did eveything SUK specifies for my car and loaned me a car for free too whilst mine was in the workshop. But I do think it comes down to how good the individual dealers are whether Skoda or VAG independent. If you find a good one stick with them, although your Skoda main dealer will get software updates before the independents and doesn't charge for flashing the upgrade to ecu.
