06 Superb Idiacator lights flashing twice as fast as normal

Featured Replies

Hi all

The indicator lights on my superb flas twice as fast as they should,

All the bulbs are ok and it is happening to either side when used.I got a new stem thinking it was that plugged it in and it was still the same.

Is it possible the hazard light switch is the cause of my problems?

Thanks

Try the bulbs anyway, I used to get issues with the brake light warning coming on when the bulbs appeared to be ok, I think the Superb is super sensitive to early warnings, so splash on 4 bulbs before you go any deeper, and check the other bulbs as well, especially the rear ones for correct fitment and ditch any that appear to be mirroring over.

Hi

I will get 4 new bulbs tomorrow and put them in it would be great if that solved the problem,

The only thing is when the hazard lights are put on they work normally

Chris

Wouldnt hurt to check the earth straps on the chassis near where the lights are.front and back.......only want a loose earth ground and that could give potential fast indicator problems.

Hmmm, that would suggest the indicator stalk tbh, and they do fail on the Sups, if it's not bulbs then the stalk and switch should be the next things to try, and as SN says the earths.

You don't say what year the car is ! but I would suspect either the flasher unit, or if it is a new car then it could be the ECU and

the can-bus system.

The only other thing, and you have not said, have you got a tow-bar with electrics ? if so it could be something to do with that.

So the best thing to do is place as much detail as you can in the profile, so we don't have to guess !

Hi

Heres more info

Skoda superb dec 05 1.9 tdi comfort model

The car has had xeonon lights fitted by previous owner (complete head lamps )

I have tried a new indicator stem but still the same

Hazard Lights are flashing at normal speed

Indicators have been like this since I bought the car

There is no tow bar fitted

Thanks

Well if all the indicators work via the hazzard switch but flash fast during normal opperation then it seems it isnt an earth problem....like you say it could be something via the ecu or even with the xennons that were installed by the previous owner........maybe its something along those lines that the fault lies

Hi again Chris

I don't think the xenons have any thing to do with it, !

I think you said you have got some new bulbs ! have you replaced them ? (all)

the other thing to try, check the connector on the back of the hazard switch, make sure it is pushed on all the way.

I know you said it has not got a towbar, but is there any evidence it has had one, as the double speed flashing is

a warning of a faulty indicator circuit on a trailer, so if a towbar (well the electrics) were removed then poss causing

the problem.

as i said in a previous reply, could be the can-bus, has yours got can-bus ?

Hi,

I spent some time this eve and changed all the indicator bulbs but still have the problem.

There is no sign of any towbar ever being fitted,

I have a vag com tool could I check indicators with this?

Thanks

Chris

In the old days, indicators flashing twice as fast as normal was almost always the flasher unit going ( Usually a small silver box the size of a box of matches). Not sure if flasher units have survived onto modern cars.
