What Diff to get?

Featured Replies

Ended up buying a gearbox (didn't want one) so i'm looking at maybe fitting a diff to it over the winter.

Already have a ECS stage 1 Clutch kit inlcluding SMF so will look at getting it all fitted early next year at the latest.

I'm looking at the Wavetrac but would like peoples opinions on Peloquin/Quaife.

I've gone with Peloquin, being fitted as we speak

I've got a 4x4 so no Wavetrac option, also Peloquin do both the front and rear diffs.

Peloquins are cheaper than quaife by the time you add the bolt kit required to fit them.

You can also get them direct from Peloquin.

Garry Peloquin's a very decent chap, and gave me a respectable discount for both my diffs.

Cost me about £700 each, as opposed to £1000 each in the UK.

Backdraft and Jabba do them in the UK.

I bet if you could put together a little group buy there would be $ to be saved.

Wavetrac's are suppose to be "tuneable" - different roller materials or something.

sweedish has been looking into this very question.

I think their also the cheapest (?)

He desperately wants to be able to go round corners like me :giggle:

Peloquin for me too!

Works great on mine!!! It really keeps the car flat when powering out of a corner, quite strange if i'm honest!

Steve!

I have a Quaife fitted and like it. Used on track quite a bit without any issues.

Have not tried the others but ive not heard anything negative about the Peloquin so thats always a good sign. Cheaper than the Quaife too so worth considering.

bringing this back,

has anyone else got anything to say on this matter? I might be getting a 2nd hand box to go on mine to get it back on the road then use my OE one and fit one of these when itssorted out. then get a good cluch kit and refit the lot.

cheers

Money well spent. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I'm on the look out for a diff for my 6 speed too, so it's good to hear some feedback :)

Great diff the peloquin!!

Keeps the car nice and flat on the bends too!! In the wet/damp it can be a handful as it will breakaway with both wheels rather than just spin one!! Not good, especiallynon bends!!

Depending on power output though this may not be so much of an issue.

As Des said, money well spent!

Did you get the 02C and 02C rear ones? What about the ones for the R32 would they fit or are they for the 6 speed? Is the rear diff different on the Mk4 R32?

Interested to hear how it compares to standard once you get them fitted.

I'm only running K04 hardware so plenty shy of 300. No plans to go bigger really.

Yea I spose it would be even better in the wet with a car with a tad (200 bhp less) than yours Steve. with the power you got even 4x4 would be hairy in the wet lol

Are the Quaife, Peloquin and Wavetrac all pritty much the same? I am a tad confused as the quaife iirc is saying its unlike the others?

choises choises.

My gearbox is an O2M 6 speed, with the Peloqin 02M 498 005B/R32 fitted. This will fit any O2M 4x4 gearbox (TT, S3, etc).

The rear diff is the peloquin "R32 Rear differential", which should any Haldex 1 vehicle

On the 4x4 platform, you get a eLSD as standard, this is fitted before the Peloquin, so the Peloquin only really operates when the eLSD is fully engaged.

In order to get the full benefits of the uprated mechanical diffs, you need to uprate the haldex controller and pump to a blue or orange haldex.

I was really hoping my car would be ready for some proper testing in the white stuff in the Alps this winter, but still some teething issues, so not had the chance to push it yet.

Hopefully getting things sorted end of Jan, and with luck a lot more white stuff, and serious testing can take place ;)
