Warm idle speed?

Featured Replies

Anybody tell me what the correct warm idle speed for a totally stock '06 vRS should be? Mine occasionally feels a bit lumpy and the tacho needle fluctuates between 850 and 900 rpm. Gentle pressure on the accelerator pedal, raising engine speed to 1000 rpm +/- 50 revs., sorts it nicely. If mine is slightly out, is it a DIY job to sort it or is it time for a tune-up?

Cheers,

Steve

It shouldn't fluctuate. I've a "55" plate VRS and it's rock steady. Certainly no thrumming or "tripping up" as I've had in older, clockwork, petrol motors.

ISTR the idle speed should be 900rpm.

Updated now my bleary eyes have focussed on the car with the engine warm idling.... (bl**dy M25!)

Thanks for the replies guys. Anybody got a cure for the lumpiness at idle then?

Cheers,

Steve

Our 56 plate is the same - doesn't do it all the time, sometimes its worse than others. Our dealer said it's a characteristic and they all do it. Switching the aircon or heated rear window sometimes makes it better.

My '07 plate can be proper lumpy at idle, like its 'missing', it doesnt do it all the time, and for some reason can be worse when facing downwards on a slope? Strange.

I think quite a few people with the BLT engine have experienced this - and I think most people just ignore it. As JulieD said turning the A/C on seem to steady it out as it adds a

load to the engine which will adjust itself to compensate. I must admit that it does annoy me as I dont think the earlier ASZ engine ever has this, neither has my previous 1.9TDi engined cars.

I dont know if there is a definitive answer to this problem?
