VRS suspension on TDI

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

does any body know the difference between VRS and TDI suspension? I have owned VRS long time ago, but had to sell due to few point on my licence

Since than I have bought myself TDI - which is great - never let down since I've had it. I need to change rear suspension for my next MOT I was told by my friendly

mechanic, so I thought I change the lot! I'll carry the work myself as I am quite handy with spanner.

Anyway, my question for you folks is: would VRS suspension fit my TDI? I'd like to experience the riding spirit I soooooo enjoyed on my VRS.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated

No vRS suspension is not suitable for your TDi. The TDi engine is much heavier than the petrol engine in the vRS (assuming mk1 here), therefore the spring ratings are all wrong.

According to the handbook, there isn't much difference in weight between a TDI and vRS. I have vRS springs with TDI sports shocks (Bilstein version of factory fitted sports shocks) on mine and it is fine, much better than standard TDI suspension.

Its not so much the difference in total weight, its the weight distribution. The diesel Octavias have a more weight over the front than the petrol 1.8Ts

possible won't help you, i have a 2002 tdi estate running it on Spax VSX suspension. ever since fitted the car feels amazing, hard but not too harsh and flat through corners. i got it direct through spax, delivered for 285quid and fitted myself, took a day to change all 4 corners but my god was it worth it! car now sits level and about 50mm ish lower than standard (abit lower than vrs i think)!!!!

Given that either would be a declarable mod and probably the insurance companies would view them similarly, combine that with the fact that a good suspension setup can be had for less than £500 new, I'd definitely suggest putting aftermarket suspension on. I'm sure there are plenty of vRS owners who have moved to aftermarket springs/dampers and not regretted it. :)

I can recommend the Weitec GT Coilovers

I've run KW Sports Springs and Dampers and it was brill on my mk1 tdi
