I bloody knew it wasn't ME!! (ADSL)

Featured Replies

Well, firstly the good news.... I'M ONLINE HERE ON 1MB BROADBAND! :woot: :D:thumbup:

Now the question is, after it was ME that TOLD wanadoo WHAT TO DO... what can I get back off them! :grumpy: I told them to get an engineer TO MY HOUSE (something not done by them yet) and lo and behold a few minutes and he's got the line working! Well, at least I'm on now, but FFS its been over five weeks of back and forth with Wanadoo on their 0870 number plus 5 weeks of 56k penny a minute hell... I reckon I'm gonna go for a couple of months free of them. Mwahahahaha!

Now to hog some serious bandwidth!

My brother in law went with freeserve not long after his exchange was upgraded for ADSL, this was before the second round of ADSL upgrades based on demand. I launched a campaign to have our exchange upgraded when BT anounced the demand lead scheme. In the time that Freeserve took to get him online, I launched (with a friend) a successful campaign, saw it through, waited for the upgrade and selected ZeN as my ISP. Yes, I got online before he did. Freeserve were hopeless, just kept reading from scripts in a call centre probably in India :(

Dave.

Were you paying for the service while it wasn't working? If so, claim a reimbursement for this - if you look through the small print in the contract, it should have a section regarding the service agreement. Chances are they will be in breach of this if you don't have a working line...

Then you go for the "disgruntled customer make me happy" line and see what they can do. :D

Rob - I was told I will be credited for monies taken already from my "going live" date *cough of 4th November. ;) I just want MORE! :D

If you appear greedy, you are more than likely to lose their help/offer of compensation.

I think I'll appear more like a disgruntled customer only then... I have to admit I've kept my cool well this past 5 weeks while on the phone to them. Never shouted or anything, just done what they've asked, even if it was all for nothing, and BT came and sorted it out in no time at all. Time for some firm whupass though. I'm waiting for the next phone bill now to see how often 0844______ appears. :D

Hey at least you're up & running now :D

Good to see you up and running again Jason.

Good to hear it's sorted.

What was actually wrong with the line or your connection (in case someone else should get problems)?

BT never told me - All I was told it was indeed not working, then BT techie made some "changes" to the line, plugged his modem in and it synched straight away! The rule of thumb is I guess, if you're line isn't connecting from day1 of ADSL setup, INSIST your ISP sends a BT engineer to your house and check the line, NOT just the exchange like wanadoo kept saying would be checked.

My 1MB ADSL makes the 128k ISDN at work seem pathetic! But we're going on ADSL too soon. YAY! :D

But if you get a BT engineer out and it turns out to be your internal wiring that screwed things up, they'll try and charge you for the engineer's time... so worth doing *some* checking before demanding a visit...

 I had five weeks of that "checking"... ;)

I know... and plenty of advice!

Give it a few weeks and you'll start wanting 2mb... I'm now starting to think 1mb is a bit slow for downloading some files... :)

(Perfectly fine for counterstrike though)

I'm fed up of 2MB :D

I think some people on here need to experience the world of 56K dial-up for a while... :grumpy:

Have you downloaded 'Student House' yet? ;)

I've been working on a customer site a hell of a lot over the past month and I'm stuck with dial-up there.

Its a nightmare after my nice 2mb line at home

ahem, not yet. ;) Thanks for the tip though... I think. :naughty:

Got home yesterday and plugged my laptop in and it couldn't get on the web. Thought that a bit odd, so checked my settings and all seemed fine and then went and checked my other machines. All disconnected from the internet. Went and checked the router and noticed the ADSL light was out and then tried the phone and that was dead too. Tried both at the master socket and still nothing so I gave BT a ring. They helpfully identified a fault on the line (between the exchange and my house) and said they'd hopefully be able to look at it on Monday, but they were very busy. :(

So Jase's ADSL went on yesterday and mine went off...... hmmmmmmmmm ;)

Ah well, at least spending a couple more hours in the office will look good for me, even if I am just posting on Briskoda :D
