servicing issues.

Featured Replies

My VRs had its first service the other week. I bought it when it was 6 months old with 6k on the clock. By my reckoning its 1st service was due december this year. I do quite a lot of miles (11k on the clock by start of dec), and thought I would ring up to book her in.

(I should point out that when I bought the car, the salesman ((who was very good and I dont have a problem with that side of things)) explained all about the service intervals, but I was far to busy with gadgets, and fast things, so didn't really understand what he said, other than "its all set up for servicing and a light will come on when its due its next one".)

The light hadn't come on but I decided it MUST be due anyway.

I phoned the dealer to book it in, and when I explained, was told, 'its not due a service untill 20k, so youv'e got ages yet, the light will come on and tell you when its due. All octavia's are set up for 20k intervals'

I wasn't convinced ( ) that this was right, and asked if I could bring it in for a few other things that I had noticed and that were causing me concern (loud ticking noise under the hood - sorted now - I know what it is although I cant for the life of me repeat it!!)

So, following week took the car in, and went out with one of the reps who was very nice, and put my fears to rest about the sus noises. Whilst there I mentioned the servicing issue to him, and he told me that my car WAS due a service, and the intervals were 10k, and as such it needed doing.

So, booked the car in for the following week, took it down and left it there whilst I walked around the shops, (as I was told it would only take 45 mins). Came back 30 mins later, to see my car had moved, but was parked outside in the carpark. (bloody hell, that was quick! I thought)

When I got inside the receptionist approached me and said, 'do you know that your car is not due a service until 20k?'

what followed was a bit of confusion, with me pointing out what had happened previously. What then happened, (that really ****ed me off) was to be asked, 'do you want to have your car service or not'

me. 'well is it due its service?'

them' not really, so do you want it done'

me. 'does it need doing?'

them. 'well, its up to you really, do you want us to do it?'

me. 'does it need doing?'

them.' well, do you want it doing?'

and so on, and on, and on.......................................

in the end, I said, just service it!

I then had to wait another hour for them to sort it out.

The dealership concerned (lightcliffe skoda, huddersfield) were very polite, very nice, and have a very nice showroom. I have no complaints on that score. My problem is that I have no idea when my car needs servicing and whether my last one was needed or not, and how this affects my warranty.

So now, I do what I should have done in the first place, and come to Briskoda and ask the experts!

I'd get it done at 10k, just to be on the safe side, although most are set to variable service on delivery. IIRC, Denis posted a code that is in the service book which will denote if longlife oil was fitted at delivery.

I decided to go the 10k route due to my mileage (about 1-1.5k per week) so I'd knopw when it would need doing rather than it saying 800 miles to service and not being able to get a loan car). Had the first one done, 6k miles later the srevice indicator came on because they hadn't reset the service schedule.

As you've had yours done now, have a look at the bill. If the oil came to about
