Now you know why most of us are raving about it. Bear in mind that the CR170 Elegance is the top spec diesel although the 1.8TSI petrol is supposed to go like s@&^ off a shovel as well. Yes, it's not the best looking car on the road but it's much better looking than a lot of 4x4's and more importantly drives the way you've discovered it does. Try hopping into a Hyundai Santa Fe for a drive, it's like a tractor compared to the yeti and so ugly.

I think she has loads of character and a uniqueness that thankfully doesnt fit into the Nissan cack brigade of sameness that the new crossovers seem to have to have.

Sexy beast tis all.

When you look at the competition I think it stands up well, Tiguan is a bit lacking in character inside and out, the Qashqai is very Nissan and very dull inside, RAV4 like the Nissan and all the far eastern designs like Kia and so on. I personally like the newest Merc MLs but they are not perfect for the huge money. You have to look much further up the food chain to the Tuareg or bigger Land Rovers for inspiration in the design area, then add about £20,000 to the cost before we see a thing which is 'nice looking' and I would argue they are just too big and lumpy. Then we look at the BMW's which are all awful. Speaking of big and lumpy...

The Yeti tries to be a bit different and if you go down that route while still keeping to the rugged squat / square outdoor look you may end up looking... less than beautiful.

I am reminded of this every time I look in the mirror.

Well another update just been to a family do over in longridge went on back roads that I know like the back of my hand and on the way home the car has blown me away I dont think I could have made any better progress in the VRS and the cornering lights are a hoot. I would say that it is one of the best kept secrets going :D :p

On the point of performance? Yes, the CR170 has plenty of "grunt". This is a machine that doesn't get left behind. I am sorely tempted, at some later date, to treat this engine to a Stage I remap and fit a K&N Air Box.

This will increase bhp to over 200 and torque to over 400 Nm. Can you imagine what it would go like then? emoticon-0130-devil.gif

On the point of looks? Well, that's purely subjective. I agree that there are probably better looking 4x4s on the road such as the Range Rover Sport, BMW X5, X6, etc. but in its class, I think it's better looking than most.

also dont forget that the 1.2 tsi can be boosted to 140 bhp and loads more torque :p .....certainly something on my list

To my eye, the problem with the Yeti looks is that fore and aft of the A pillar seem to have been designed by two separate teams of people who never actually met one another.

Rearwards it's neat and functional but the front seems to have been driven by some kind of imposed need for a family look to several different Skoda models and a look at that which is rather inelegant and awkward. I'm not complaining about the headlight/foglight treatment which is a little quirky but nothing wrong with that. My reservations are more about the profiling of the front section, which to my eye just plain doesn't work well. (But it hasn't put me off ordering a CR170 - no build date as yet though - the overall package is still a good one even if I don't like the front styling!)

This response has just caught my eye - hit the nail on the head! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I tend to agree with your asessment. From the A-pillar back, it is simple, somewhat functionally elegant - in particular the treatment of the B and C pillars and the wrap-around look of the rear glass.

I suspect the front is a compromize between the "Skoda" look, rounded and soft nose for pedestrian protection and an aerodynamic entry of the box shape to the air velocity over the whole carcass. It seems to be sucessful in noting the almost complete abscense of wind noise up to certain speeds. It has a cetain quirky and quizzical look similar to the Roomster front. It is quite cute, but there does seem to be some "purposeful" look missing from a tough little 4WD bugger!

My guess is that we will see a more Octavia/Superb look to the front in the first sheet metal upgrade, where the bug-eye fog lights will be re-located below the bumper - a shame from a light efficiency standpoint - and a more horiziontal visual element design between the headlights and the grille treatment - a la the next Tiguan look.

From inside, the Yeti gets top marks in my view. It sorta grows big and powerful as you step through the door and start-up. The inside feel is of a much larger vehicle, that you have to get used to is capable of movuíng in much smaller spaces that you initially expect and is a lot more nimble than it appears. Front seat passengers frequently gasp as you drive close to obstacles, not being able to see the rounded front corners from inside the car.
