312mm Discs Choice

Featured Replies

I've just got myself some 312 calipers and carriers, and I'm now looking for discs and pads.

I've come across two sets on ebay. One is the full Mintex set, and the other is just listed as 312mm vented Audi TT discs.

I know that if money were no object, then the mintex set would win hands down, but how great a difference would there really be between the sets?

On another point, is this a decent match for the original Skoda caliper green?

ive got the mintex and cant fault them...cant comment on the others...

and yes thats the paint you need..

I suppose if i'm going from standard to 312s, then I won't miss the "extra" with the mintex pads that i'm not getting.

Infact I've just come across these. £5 more than the cheaper ones, but with mintex pads.

cant see there being much difference tbh

normal disks and ds2500 pads  although we've got mintex all round on the Focus, work well on the road and around bedford

I got cheapish ones, not the cheapest, but cheaper ones. 312`s are massive for the size of the car, and unless your tracking it weekly, you`ll not notice much difference.

I've just checked on the price of those pads....ouch...

After a bit more reading I think those normal discs and mintex pads will probably suffice

dont agree with that ive just done my 312 upgrade with OE discs and pads and the differance is already apparent much harder pedal better stopping already and they havent even beded in yet i will be doing track days but not that often i have in the past had EBC green stuff pads and drilled and grooved discs on my vectra 2.5 V6 Gsi total waste of money they only worked if they where red hot and the sqweeeeeeeeeeeeeeked like a mother all the god dam time

I`m guessing you drive fairly briskly then? The 312`s are big, and make the car over braked, i noticed no difference going to decent non OEM brakes, except to my wallet. Even when giving the bakes some stick they still perform very well. Still dont see the need for a everyday road car tbh. If your coming from a set of euro car parts bargin bin specials then yeah, i`m sure you would notice it

they where skoda disks and pads on it and actualy i am a senior support worker so for 37 hours a week i take clients out with me in my car so i have to drive like miss daisy i will have an odd brisk drive but ive never been 100% happy with the setup there was alot of travel on the pedal even after new skoda pads where fitted and brake fluid renewed still no improvement now this setup is on already as i said its much better IMO tyres and brakes are two of the most important things on a car i now have the confidence that it will stop on a penny

I'm running Mintex discs and pads, and can't fault them :)

I don't understand, you come from skoda discs anyway?!

OEM all-round with 312s - not seen the point of anything more, even with my trans-Snowdonia commute. Don't forget that fancy discs don't improve your braking power, they just help combat brake fade and pad glazing. But I've never got my 312s to overheat, even when I bed in new pads. And as for any extra braking force from uprated pads, like I say, I really haven't ever seen the need...

I don't really feel the need in uprated pads either with 312's - they are superb, however the amount of dust that the mintex pads give off is immense! When it comes to change I will be looking for other pads that give off less dust.

I have mintex 312mm plain face discs and Mintex M1144 fast road pads..

Can't fault it at all..

To be honest, i think OEM 312 would be just as good as a fast road pad on the standard fabia setup..

Pagid OE discs 312 and pads are just right for me, road & track. I don't think you can do better. Good braking and a progressive feel even when cold.
