Ex octavia owners, how does the superb compare?

Featured Replies

I've currently got a 59plate octavia estate Vrs which it great except for the road noise which is driving me up the wall (I've already added some sound proofing). Any owners who have upgraded, how does the Superb compare? Is it a lot better for road/wid noise?

Ta.

I've just got rid of my 59 plate vrs hatch and to be honest I didn't have much of a problems with wind/road noise - it maybe down to the specific tyres you're running.

I now have a Superb Combi and the sound proofing is excellent - a very quiet comfortable ride - it's just like a jelly compared to the vrs! Don't get me wrong it's an awesome machine with a higher spec than the vrs and for the size of the car it does handle well but it's no vrs.

Superb = quiet!

After an Octy Vrs you will need to re-think what your rquirements are. One thing (coming from someone who had 2 Octys on the trot) I could guarantee is that if you drove a Superb for a week you would be VERY reluctant to hand it back!!!

Cheers. This is my second Octavia, my previous was a petrol hatch which although noisy was not half as bad even taking in to account my current one is an estate. It could be the tyres, continental sport contact 2, known to be noisy, just not sure I want to send 500 quid to find it's made no change. If I went for a Superb it would be a 170CR the same as my Octavia, so I guess similar get up and go (taking in to account the extra weight). I'm getting to point where I'm not fussed about driving hard so softer suspension shouldn't matter. (Besides I've got a westfield to drive like a t*t in :-) ).

Think I'll have to find one to try.

Fifth Gear tested the sound levels in a Superb and a Mercedes - the Superb was quieter.

I think you'll find the test on youtube.

They did. But it was a 17 yr old merc

I'm sure it'll be great though. Just been told mine is to be built in week 30. About 6 weeks to go!! ;)

Hi i got my new Superb 2 170 Tdi elegance last week what a car you can barely hear the engine at any speed.I had a VRS 06 for 3 years and found that a great car 2 but a little road noise at high speeds , superb far better car in every respect.

I've traded my Superb with the wifes PD VRS Octy , its faster , handles better and is just less refined i love it BUT and its a big but i dont do that many miles , on a long trip i would want the Superb we have put 25k on ours in 18mths its a luxurious cruiser the VRS is a bruiser

Hiive hard5 Oct from basic to elegance finaly upgraded to the superb Eleglance 170cr, and now if I had a choice superb every time. I honestly thing the drive calms you down after a stressfull day, it is that good

Coming from a Octy II to a Superb II I believe there is substantially less wind noise.

The Superb takes more care when parking.

Internally, there is far more room for front and rear passengers, while the dash is more upmarket. Unlike the facelifted Octy, the Superb speedo is marked in 10mph increments, rather than the less helpful every 20mph.

The Superb fuel tank is 5 litres larger and my 1.9Tdi 105 is good for well in excess of 700 miles (767 miles is my record).

On long trips, the Superb is more relaxing than the Octy. Last year, I drove almost 500 miles from Worcester to Nairn without a single stop.

For runs to the tip, the Superb hatch with the rear seats folded beats the Octy estate.

Well my wife's greenline superb has as you know the lowered suspension by 15ml...and the ride is somewhat on the firm side, and of course it doesnt have the power :giggle: but it more than makes up on the economy side of things, but it will still perform admirably, although the 0-60 times isnt exactly octavia vrs territory, and as for the suspension, it probably isnt finely tuned compared to the superb elegance 170cr, but it is a comfortable ride, and my wife and i have no complaints in that department, but overall, the superb mk2 is basically a very nice car, what ever your model is.

I did see the other day a superb estate 3.6 4x4 model parked up on a job we are working on, and looking at the rear exhaust pipes, i thought they looked much larger than the rears on the standard superb..even the greenline rear exhaust was small in comparison...i would compare the diameter of an orange for the 3.6 and a plum for the greenline lol. A very nice looking beast tho...and to have a car like the 3.6 in its luxury, coupled with the performance can only be described as....i want one !!!!

I moved from an Octavia Elegance DSG after four years to my Superb 170CR DSG (both new purchases). The immediate difference was lower noise levels, far more room in both the rear cabin and the boot, but I initially missed the dashboard top storage and the bottle pockets in the front doors. The Columbus was also a vast improvement over the unit in the Octavia, as were the "cats' eye" lighting, size of the door mirrors and the headlights. I had Xenons on the Octy, but the Superb's lights are so much better.

I think you must have meant to type "mm" instead of "ml", unless of course your wife's Superb is used for the transfer of liquids!
