Performance?

Featured Replies

I've got the 1.9 SDI, from 2002.

Anyone have a list of things that I could fit to increase the performance?

Buy a vrs or pd100 tdi ?

Not enough money to do that at once, I want to make a list to bring it up to and over 120bhp over a year or so..

Dont think it can be done because you have no turbo...

Hopefully someone with more experience of the sdi will prove me wrong....

Could I not retro-fit a turbo?

Don't think so - that would require new injectors and a new block etc surely?

The 1.9 SDI is an old engine, the 1.9 TDI PD uses special injectors and other magical bits to get more power!

Engine transplant maybe!

Engine transplant maybe!

Hmm.. How much would one of those engines set me back do you think?

Check on ebay for ASZ or BLT engine with turbo and loom attatched - maybe £1000 +

Hmm.. Might as well just save my pennies then.. God. Almost burst into tears last night when I saw a vRS Fabia that was younger than mine, done less miles and only 1.5k more than what I paid for mine. FML.

I better count the coppers I've put in my ashtray see if I've got £1000 worth.

Im sure if you sold your sdi you could find a tdi for roughly same price... then you could remap it to 140bhp ?

That wasn't a true vRS as it's too old, unless someone made a transplant.

It was a vRS, 05 plate.

I wonder if one of these tuning boxes would work. The ones I mean are digital and not the cheap resistor type ones you find on fleBay.

Would take the 64bhp engine to 72bhp. Not really blistering speeds for the 350 quid I'd be laying down.

Ah, you said a year younger than yours, and I read it to be older, thus 2001. Ignore me!

why how much was the vrs? there not dropping in price now i hope emoticon-0106-crying.gif ? as people have said swap her for a turbo'd fabia even if its not the pd130,the lower powered turbo diesels are still very easily tuned emoticon-0148-yes.gif

The usual suspects, intake, exhaust, remap. Though as an NA engine effects will be marginal.

For 120 bhp you're looking at super/turbo charging and/or NOS.

Whats your present car worth on a trade-in plus any money in your pocket?? you could be closer than you think for a Fabia VRS.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Contrary to popular belief, the vRS badge I glued to the front has added 5bhp! :p

And is it possible to supercharge a diesel engine?

Also wouldn't I need to buy an intercooler and a new exhaust manifold if I was to fit a turbo?

Yes intercooler and piping.. be cheaper to sell your car and get a vrs.

Especially since you would also have to upgrade the brakes, exhaust etc etc

Not that I'm trying to say that it will increase performance you understand but a k&n or green or pipercross

freeflow air filter may slightly improve throttle response once the adaptive ecu has gotten used to it.

After say 100 odd miles maybe...

Mrs Grr has a SDI and I really don't mind driving it at all. It's a far more relaxing drive than my vRS.

No worries about what gear am I in? What my revs are? Can I boot it? etc. etc. Better ride, better brakes IMO

effortless economy... it's a comfy slipper of a car :D

It is what it is but I found that running a full tank of Shell V power through it once in a while

seems to sharpen overall engine response, but running on it all the time is unnecessary.

I suppose using an additive like millers may help and be a cheaper option than v power but I've never tried myself.

A lot of people swear by it though from what I've seen on here.

I always run on V-Power because the Shell garage is only up the road, and it is by far cheaper than the standard diesel from Sainsburys in my local area. I sometimes use diesel redex too.
