LED side lights

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I have OEM xenon lights, one of my side lights has gone so I would like to get some LED ones to match the xenon lights! What do you all use? Good life length?

Thanks

Dave

Dave, I am away from my own pc at the moment but I have a link to great supplier

of quality sidelights stored on my pc.

Watch this space, I will be back in London tonight and I'll pm you the link.

Here you go mate. They also work in the interior map lights. I have a set there too.

Very very bright!! Good quality construction. Mine have been in a year.

Good seller, have used 3 times myself with no probs at all.

Free postage too.... As with all LEDs they only work one way so test before putting everything

back together. If they dont come on just turn the bulb through 180 degrees and you should be okay.

how do you change the map lights buddy?

how do you change the map lights buddy?

Carefully pop off the diffusion cover and it will reveal the 3 lamps inside.

I can remove using my fingers so you shouldn't need any tools.

The centre one is a different type but I have also changed that for a 12 Led festoon cluster.

One point to note- If you have a sunroof you cant fit the interior map lights with leds as they are at the wrong angle, the 12 led centre one will fit though. As Gary says try and pull off the diffuser with fingers or a plastic tool, metal tools will quite likely break it.

Sidelight leds are a good match for Xenons and are very bright, I was surprised how much light they give off.

Anyone got some night time pics of these led side lights ?

If you give me a few moments transferring it off the phone I do have one similar to the one posted..

Used to have those w5w led sidelights, but theyre now in the map reading light instead. My sidelights have 8 leds per bulb, 2 on each side and one on the end, and are way better, they fill the lense with light now so doesnt have to be dark to get the full efffect. Cant find the lead to connect my phone to upload a photo, will pop out and get some pics on my camera.....

There's mine, these are some off Ebay with the metal surround. Can't find a link I'm afraid!

Wow are those pics with JUST the sidelights on?! They look fricking mint - gotta get me some of those! :D:) thanks for taking the time to upload the pics chaps.

Beat you to it :p

haha  had a shower then dinner, completely forgot about it until now.. :notme:

IIRC.. I believe you can get 2W and 4W single LED's now (mine are 1W LED's and around £4-5 a pair).. I was gonna try the new ones out but they seem a bit expensive for an experiment... bet they heat up a treat aswell..!

Im working on some DLRs atm, planning to use several 0.5W rating LEDs to power them :D ..

It's raining out so not had time to mess about with the light settings, the lights appear very bright.

Here's my numberplate lights if youre interested, 6 led festoons.

saint1d - [re:501 bulbs] Ahh, I was contemplating on the multiple LED's as I have the metal shielded one.. which is better looking in daytime/night time? I used to have a 6 led version and it looked a bit funny in the daytime because it had 6 separate spots giving light output..

Dont get smd ones. They melt underneath the headlight when its on for long periods. I've found its better to pay a bit more (around a tenner) and make sure they have a metal surround. Ill try get a pic of mine but im well chuffed with them. CHeaper ones tend to be different colours from one to the next as well but the more money you spend, the better they are. Also have bootlid/numberplate leds too. And the same goes for them, i had cheap ones which flickered all the time, paid a bit more and i havent had a prob as yet (touch wood). Hope that helps!

I've used various leds over the past few years and never had a problem with them melting, but that said my mazda had projector lenses and the sidelight was next to the full beam (one to keep an eye on I guess). Have had some crappy ones that flicker and even stop working after a few weeks, so yeah, avoid the 99p jobs from Hong Kong.

The 9 led sidelights I use now are by far the best I have had purely because they fill the lens much like a regular bulb. I just make sure that the bulbs are lined up the same as each other, led pointing up and down and left and right ie. like + or you can line them up diagonally like X. As you can see from the 6th picture they dont really look like 9 different spots glowing, they merge into one.

From experience I dont like the "domed" leds, they dont give a 180 degree coverage like the flat smd type.

My interior and numberplate bulbs I got from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ledlightzlz had no problem with them, very fast delivery and happy with the quality, but he doesnt do the 9 led type.

Just fitted a set of these to replace the yellow looking (espeically next to my Xenons!) main beams.

VERY pleased with them! They are very bright and white - can't wait to check em out when it gets dark :)

Thanks very much for the heads up grr666  these made my day lol. :D

My interior lights are very very bright now. :D

I just bought and fitted one of these but don't think it's any brighter than the 10w bulb that was already in there, although it is clearly whiter. Oh and I found the original 10w bulb *does* get hot, even after a short time of being on :giggle: Need to get some of the 2 5w map ones now.

I'm glad you are happy with them  They aren't the brightest ones out there but

I think that they represent great value for money. They are well constructed units and the

colour is nice and white. I also think they look good in the lamp cluster when they are off being

metal jacketed and all.

When I dug out the link and saw they were reduced I bought another pair for spare myself :D

Did you burn your fingers taking it out? :D

That LED panel shouldn't generate much heat though mine doesn't....

When it's coupled with the other LEDs in the maplights it should be a lot brighter.

I can't look directly at my set up when it's dark

or I have blue floaty dots in front of my eyes for a few minutes. :D

Top man as ever, ordered them the other day and now have them next to me! Great service from the seller! Got my car in for a service with Skoda tomorrow to going to get them to whip them in for me! I cant be doing with all this faffing around!

I took a look under the hood saw how tight it was with the Xenon ballasts and things and decided they can worry about that for me :giggle:

Oh and on the plus side they have got the New Fabia vRS in the show room so will be having a good look around that! Piccy time i think  1 for a test drive please B)

Thanks again :thumbup:B)

I too will be using the LEDs for daytime driving, however, don't bother waiting for darkness, the 'Highway Code' states that you have to drive on Dipped Headlights after lighting up time, which makes sense, in fact driving on sidelights is breaking the law !
