ARRGGGH hit a rock

Featured Replies

i know this one is gonna have a bad ending :'(

anyway was driving along side some sitework and the lads were nice enough to leave a nice big rock in my path. the rest is obvious

the results...

there was a bubble on the tire wall so i changed it over and didnt notice anything out of place/shapae whilst doing so. Then left to top up the pressure, all seemed normal but on the way home when i hit maybe 45/50mph a wicked vibration started in the steering wheel... tool off the wheel again just to make sure i hadnt done something really stupid but again could not see anything obviously out of kilter. Then when i put it back on i noticed that that side of the car seems to be sitting down a small bit,not even a finger but some. and maybe sitting forward a small bit also, doesnt sound good does it

my thoughts were the shock or maybe the wishbone but i couldnt really see anything wrong apart from the little rubber cover on the shock had slid up some.

any ideas suggestions???

What did you hit it with, the tyre or part of the suspension?

I'd check the wishbone is not damaged, wishbone bushes look ok, ARB is ok, droplink on that side is ok, track rod arm is on properly and not damaged.

make sure none of the weights have fell off inside the wheel this cause it too just a thought

Further to this

If your shocks were already on their way out, you may collapsed them more.

Also check the other wheels and suspension. I've un-seated a rear spring before, which put the car @ an odd angle, about a fingers width.

I hit it with the tyre. definately didnt hit any other part of suspension etc

thats what left the bubble on the tyre wall. i was supposed to replace the rear bushes a while back but hadnt done ethis yet. had a look and cant see any obvious damage.

will try putting other wheel back on and see if its still the same to rule out prob with the spare itself althgough i think this is unlikely

ok will have a quick chceck around

thanks

Sounds like a wheel out of balance to me, busted suspension will move around a lot when you brake/accelerate. I Don't see busted suspension vibrating at a set speed.

update

took the spare off,the one that was on when bad vibes in the styeering wheel and put the other wheel back on and as you guys suggested the vibration disappeared so looks like just a balancing problem thank god

wheels in at the moment getting balanced so will know 100% shortly

lucky me...will be installing that rock-breaking-lazer to the front bumper tomorrow me thinks

thanks to all for their input
