Netbook 'pink screen' issues

Featured Replies

I have a s/h (out of warranty) Samsung NC10 that frequently goes to a pink screen - this basically colours everything that should be white, pink.

I have googles this and found the "pink screen of death" replies but nobody seems to know what actually causes it ......... driver? graphics card? screen? or screen to motherboard cable? other?

FWIW It has been upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate & 2GB RAM

Could be graphics card driver, or graphics card hardware.

Not very helpful I know.

Try plugging in an external monitor onto the VGA port on the netbook. Does the pink colour show on the external monitor? If yes, it's likely to be a faulty graphics card (which on a netbook effectively means motherboard). If no, it could be the netbook LCD panel or the cable connecting the motherboard to the screen. Try ***gently*** applying a slight twist to the screen to see if the fault goes away.

Other things to look for:

1. Have you got the BIOS installed?

2. Have you got the latest Windows 7 graphics driver for the model of netbook installed.

Thanks! why didn't i think of plugging in an external monitor!?

Just tried that and it is working perfectly on the monitor whilst pink on the netbook, the pink screen used to clear if you either applied light pressure to various parts of the screen's edge or by closing and re-opening the lid, but that work less often now.

BIOS and all latest drivers are installed.

So it does indeed look like the screen or the connecting cable that is at fault.

The issue will be the cable between the lid and the computer body, the constant flexing has either caused internal cable damage or one of the connectors to come loose. Either way the only way to sort it will be to dismatle the netbook and check the connections or replace the cable.

This is the first thing i will be changing - from what i can find so far they are called a "Winchester wire/cable" and are chuffin dear @ £20+ for a 6" cable!!

Well to update this, i took the netbook apart to find out the part number for the cable (typically there are 2 different cables used!) i also made sure the connections were all good whilst i was in there, which they were - or so it seemed, put it all back together again and so far i have had 5 days free of the pink screen.

Cheers Manny

Good to know its now sorted and was most likely just the loose connection.
