Brakes

Featured Replies

I have noticed that the breaks on my new Fabia aren't as good as my old 1.4 16v. My Mk1 Fabia had disc's alround and my Mk2 has discs at the front and drums at the rear.

Would this make any differance.

Not as much as you would think. VAG cars seem to be heavily biased towards front braking anyway, my brakes seem better than I remember.

How many miles have you covered? They can take a couple of hundred miles to bed in.

We have done 140 miles so far.

Thats the reason gallego. You new brakes won't be fully effective until you have covered many many more miles (1000 according to the manual). But during that time of 'bedding in' you must try hard not to overtax the brakes...no harsh braking etc. This would cause the resin in the pads and shoes to overheat and cause the friction surfaces to glaze and thus reduce the braking performance. Once they are run in you will notice one heck of a difference. I have discs front and drums rear and the brakes are razor sharp.
