No windows,no alarm.

Featured Replies

Hi I'm selling my Superb Comfort 1.9 52 plate and had to replace the battery [new] .Thought I'd done well until I discovered that the windows don't work, the alarm, fuel cap flap and cent/locking all on strike??? did'nt look for any more trouble,I've had enough for one day.

So can someone give me some tips or pointers please,it's got to be related to changing the battery :( ...by the way the radio works ???strange eh ! Thanks in advance. Odsak.

A weak battery can still power the radio. does the car start? if so take for a run then try again. You didn't allow the terminals to touch and blew any fuses?

^^^^ What he just said. Check fuses. If not disconnect battery and leave overnight. Then reconnect and see if problem at resolved itself. Just seems strange it happens at same time as battery change.

Yea thanks I'll give that a try allclowns, what seems strange is the radio reset itself (just as well too cos I don't have the code!) and I have done the "key in the door resest thing" but no go ! I'm quietly confident that i'm overloooking the obvious,I just need it to poke me in the eye or get a nudge from the forum. Cheers Odsak

Slight side step to this discussion, but how does one open the fuel filler cap if the button on the drivers door doesnt work?

There should be an emergency opening device inside the boot on the sideof the filler cap...remove the trim concerned and i think you will find the item that releases the catch and opens the filler cap

Thanks Skodanut you're correct.I just saw the procedure in the owners bible [ handbook ] . I also discovered that the "power windows" as they're called in the book have NO FUSE :o but run through an "automatic circuit breaker" which should "reset after a couple of seconds after overload has been eliminated" i.e. frozen windows, unquote. This is starting to sound expensive unless I can find a buyer that's good with cars :'( . Cheers Odsak.

I've discovered that the "Door ajar" warning only appears if the "Bonnet" is open and sometimes it flickers,no other door or boot makes the warning appear, making me think that "something" is stopping the power getting to the : doors, boot, windows and derv cap flap ? :(

Could be a dodgy fuse.....or maybe the dreaded convienience box under the passenger seat....or maybe a faulty earth wire.......maybe someone else might have an idea whats wrong

Are your carpets wet?

All the circuits in the car have a fuse, not just the overload protection. The Octy has both, as does the superb 2. There maybe no mention in the manual, but try looking in the main fusebox at its diagram.

Thanks Mannyo, does this apply to the "52 plate" SUPERB COMFORT TDI (130) ? as it def'ly says in manual "no fuse for windows".

Thanks Skodanut and Superbia,I have had a wet floor i'll keep that in mind, and I will look for that " convienience box under n/s/f seat". What's in there ? more fuses or is it a junction box or or the like? Haven't much time today to look but i'll keep you updated.I want to get it right before I sell it. Cheers Odsak

Thanks for fuel filler tip

As for fuses, I guess there is no harm in pulling all your fuses one at a time to check if any have blown. Just mnake sure you have radio code handy incase you need it (I didnt when I checked all my fuses)

When was this?

The biggest problem of the MKI Superb is water ingress, this floods the CCM (which controls all of the convenience items - lights mirrors etc) this would be my first port of call.

Hi Gizmo, thanks for info,I looked at the link and found some intresting reading. My MK1 has been parked up since december,in feb I found the carpets bogging in the back of the car so I mopped up and left paper down to help dry the carpet which helped,it's now dry but a bit musty. I lost my interior lights, puddles and courtesy about a year after i got the car (about 3 yrs ago)I lived with that but now I want to sell it I cant open the windows or cap flap since I put new battery on, at the same time I discovered the plenum full of water up to the bottom of the battery, its been no higher because I was under the bonnet a couple of days before that. I gave the drain hole a fingering :giggle: and H2O was gone.

Brand new battery on and now, well you know the rest. The car is running lovely but I want it right for a buyer that's only fair,so if I can get the windows working and be upfront about the rest I'll drop the price accordingly . I hope my MKII looks and runs as well as the MKI at the same age and mileage? Thanks again you've given me mega clues. Odsak

Well folks, thought I'd let you know, opened the boot today to put a bag in it to go shopping and "wallop" the car lit up the alarm was screaming and flashers flashing ! Astonished I shut the alarm off with the key zapper and I thought"can it be" :o so turned on the ignition and "magic" the windows work central locking door ajar warning and obviosly the alarm and I have'nt done a thing ! that I know of ? I'm think know that when the battery went flat and I eventually replaced it a relay or a contact had closed and stuck that way and running around in the car unstuck it or something ? that's my lastest theory and I'm sticking to it :giggle: All I got to do know is find a buyer now its running sweetly.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions on this one. Cheers Odsak.
