Turbo Seal Gone maybe?

Featured Replies

Hello, was cleaning my throttle body out yesterday in an attempt to try and sort out my hesistation at arround 5k revs since remap. During cleaning i decided to clean out IC aswell, but noticed oil inside it. Wasn't loads to the point it was pouring out but still. Was jsut wondering whether this is common on these cars and or my turbo seal could be going, as this apart from the oil breather could be causing the problem but unlikely. Could someone please advise. Was thinking of checking inside IC again in about two months see what the state of play it is in again.

If it is the turbo seal how much roughly is this liekly to cost to get done and if/when this does get done could anything else be done at the same time?

Cheers

Neil

Don't think it is the turbo oil seals, mine had about half a cupful of oil in it when I cleaned out the intercooler and so did a couple of other members.

The oil vapuour from the crankcase breather system condenses when it gets to the intercooler and builds up in the pipe at the bottom.

If you're worried then do as you suggested and check again in a couple of months, there should be oil in there but not a massive amount. If the turbo oil seals go the car usually spits out loads of smoke.

OK thanks for that.

No smoke has come out the back that I have noticed so probs just a build up of 5 years motoring I would imagine, but thoguth I state on here worst case scenario and get a price haha. Has anyones turbo seals gone yet do you know?

Turbo seal failure is rare, but you know when it happens

1: If exhaust side goes you get a James Bond smoke screen

2: If Intake side goes, the engine uses the leaking oil as fuel, and another smoke screen, usually followed by destroyed engine. If bad the engine will run away, and cannot be stopped unless you stall it in gear with the brakes on hard. Depends if the 5 seconds of ASV at switch off is long enough to starve the engine of air.
