you are viewing this post on my polo 9n or mk6, it is a 2002 'E' model which means it is the basic of the basic. it had a bad repair on the passanger side, it had a hole in the bumper, the wing mirrors had been smashed off, and it was very dirty inside. Heres a few pics:

We bought this car as a non-runner, the symptoms we got given lead to a timing chain tensioner, a very common problem, so common that VAG now make a kit to replace the chain. we got hold of a kit, and fitted it in under a week, we then found out that this didnt solve the problem, and the car still wouldnt start! so we looked deeper into the problem and found that if the timing chain tensioner breaks then it can cause cylinders to crack, if this happens then the engine must be taken out and the head must be replaced, and gues what?! this is what we had to do. we managed to get a brand new head for a very low price. here is a few pics of the work in progress:

so as soon as the engine was back in, we noticed straight away that it was running better, but the idling revs were very low, and it even stalled, this was something to do with the ecu, and we got it sorted.

next is the body work. here is the list of parts changed, bought or modified:

new bumpers

genuine vw sideskirts

genuine vw spoiler

new badgless grill

new tailgate

new passenger side door

new rear lights (from 9N3)

new headlights (angel eye style)

new shark fin aerial

new door mouldings

new bumper mouldings

new wingmirrors

new 15" team dynamic wheels and tyres (looking for some 17" audi comps)

new 9n3 GTi exhaust and back box

new door handles

and on top of all this weve had a full respray, bumper mouldings, door mouldings, under bumper, mirror caps have all been colour coded.

here is the pics, its now running mint, and looking amazing, we are replacing most of the interior that is damaged or scratched at the moment.

Nice Job

looks cracking.

I can't help thinking it's all a bot "show and no go" though :'( I suppose, however, it suits if you are a younger driver with an insurance company to contend with so good job!.

Very nice, looks good

done a good job. what does the car owe you now that you've got it to this stage?

Way too much haha.. Car cost just over 1K but with all the unexpected engine work. I would say it totals up to around 5k. I haven't yet sat around adding it all up...

Why do I get the feeling I have seen a build thread for this car on another forum. :wonder: Real sense of dejavu for me.

Looking good anyway.

Edit: Oh yeah! Your 16th brithday project when you joined haha! :giggle:

**UPDATE**

got some audi comp alloys and got them refiurbed, i wanted them polished, but didnt want the hassle of having to clean them every day... but this fantastic refurb place offered me a finish that is a painted finish but looks polished, i am surprised that this method isnt more popular... the pace that did it is called lap-tab(www.lap-tab.co.uk), in the midlands area. refurb cost £200 (polished look, tyres fitted, wheels balanced)

here are a few pics:
