Warning lights now grinding brakes

Featured Replies

I was just out in my Fabia VRS and had the TCS and the ABS lights come on, since then the brakes are intermittently grinding (as in about 50% of the time you press the pedal), you can hear a scraping and there's a lot of nasty vibration through the pedal. Sounds like something stuck between the pad/disc, but its not there 100% of the time....but any common faults that I should be aware of? something must have triggered the warning lights? Pressing the pedal, releasing and pressing again seems to make it grind pretty much 100% of the time, but its not constant. Can't see anything obvious either.

Had 2 new tyres fitted on saturday and then the tracking done....and had a new rear wheel bearing 2 weeks ago.

Maybe your pads and/or discs need replacing?

The rears are quite worn, but not that bad and fronts are fine - Skoda did the wheel bearing a couple of weeks ago (and checked all of them), so I'm sure they'd have noticed and offered to do them! Will take the wheels off and check in the morning.

Yeah that sounds a similar issue - does it sound like metal on metal?

A couple of times the brakes went really weak too (like there was no vacuum assist), so wonder if the pistons are sticking?

Ben got mine looked at in a little garage near my work. Turned out it was the edge of the caliper carrier rubbing on the disc! there was a thin line scored on my disc. it took some time for them to work out why this was happening, but turned out the clip part of the wheel bearing (front driver's side) had rusted and cracked, allowing the bearing to move out a bit!

Probably worth checking whether any of your discs show any unusual marks?
