I've noticed a rattle from the engine bay (not the diesel noise :-)) is getting worse on my 90k mile PD140.

I've always thought it was the engine cover, but the noise was becoming so noticable at traffic lights, that I removed the cover

to see if it was the cause.

The worst of the noise is away, so must just be worn engine cover mounts, but there is still a light rattle there when idling and

when pulling away.

Is there anything else that could be causing the noise ?

I'm beggining to get concerned that the oil pump may be on its way out. :-(

I had a similar problem a while back, took me ages to figure out where it was coming from, turned out that it was the plastic covering just below the wipers (sits on a lip around the engine bay) I put some electrical tape underneath the plastic to dampen the noise then put the rubber trim back on, seemed to have done the trick - might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll look into the platic trim below the wipers first and check if its loose.

Don't think its the exhaust, seems more like a plastic thats rattling..... I hope.

Have a look at the air box too - that seems to be a common culprit.
