Just joined the site but joined Skoda many years ago. I'm the owner of a 52 plate Octavia Elegance 1.9 TDI estate which just turned over 317,000 miles today. I work as a taxi driver for the biggest Private Hire company in Doncaster. I have gleaned a lot of info from the site and thought it apt that I join. Maybe I can give a real long term insight into the Octavia experience if I'm asked the right questions. I'm now onto my 4th clutch and 2nd turbo (the first one expired at 297,000 miles with a classic black streak on the tarmac). Still returning an average of 46 mpg on an average working day and up to 65 mpg when on my own private driving. No Air-Con for as long as I can remember. No heater fan for 6 months, but otherwise still as it left the factory. Once heard it described as 'Bullet Proof'. Not wanting to tempt fate but it's a pretty good description. The Japs certainly can't produce a car with such longevity.

Welcome to Briskoda. :) That's a pretty impressive mileage! Which version of the 1.9 diesel engine does your car have?

Hello and welcome to the forum :hi:

That certainly is impressive mileage, I like to hear feedback like this as it means there's hope for my old girl.

DGW - I would think it is a ASV 110 as it is the same year/model as mine

Thanks for the welcome. Yes it is the 110. Will try to get around to posting a speedo photo soon

What mileage is it on now?

Maybe a briskoda record!

Hi and welcome aboard.

That is impressive mileage.

I agree, very impressive.

Sounds like you'd make a good test driver. Must be doing a lot of hours! :o

There isn't really anything in particular that goes wrong.

Just a couple of minor things to look out for:-

The temperature gauge should point straight up to 12 o'clock when it's warmed up and shouldn't budge.

Make sure that there is at least some history with the car. It can be MOT/milage checked via the Direct.gov website if you can get the reference number and registration from the v5 Past MOT check This also tells you what it has failed on in the past

Tell tale signs of high milage (112,000 isn't high mileage) are badly worn markings on the gear lever, drivers seat wear at the outer edge of the backrest and an extremely shiny steering wheel which may also feel very soft at the top.

The headlights aren't the world's best as standard so should be upgraded to xenon bulbs (UV stable type). Brownish, cloudy lenses point to non-UV stable bulbs being used in the past

***EDIT***

Oh yeah. Look after the turbo by changing the oil and filter at 10k and using a fully synthetic oil. Remember a taxi works harder than any other vehicle on the road with all the stop/start driving and traffic jams
