I think I know the answer to this, but it can't hurt to ask the Brisky hive-mind for a bit of a 2nd opinion ;)

Car is August 2004 on an '04 plate, 88k, Black Magic, Cruise, pretty much all the usual mods (Eibach springs, Jabba ARB, Bilstein shocks, REVO map, SEAT pipe etc).

Lots of paint chips, the odd ding, spoiler is peeling fast and the wheels are lightly curbed (it looks like a reasonably looked after 6 year old car ;)).

Dealer is aware of all the mods (and has seen/driven it) and has offered £2850 part ex.

Thanks for your opinions.

Far too low valuation. id imagine at least 4k privately

Tell the dealer to go f himself. :giggle::thumbup:

unless you're going to have a massive amount of trouble selling privately (you will NOT) then i'd tell him to go fist himself.

It's not about the trade-in, it's about the price to change. If the dealer is offering £2850 and knocking £2000 off the list price then effectively the trade-in is £4850.

What's the total deal worth?

I sold my wife's aunt's Passat to webuyanycar.com because her new car was coming from drivethedeal.com and the supplying dealer offered less than the online website. The total deal was better than getting a 'good' trade-in from the local dealer but with a higher price on the new car. Having the old car hanging around wasn't an option because of parking issues so on paper it was given away for a song, but it was the best overall deal at the time.

He has offered you the book price smack bang in the middle between an average condition and excellent condition car for a p/x.

You will always get more privately as he will allow between £1K - £1.5K on top of what he gives you to enable him to make a living.

Wack it up here for £3,500 to £4,000.

It's either that or take the bits off and put it to standard before you trade it in.

The dealer's currently offering a paltry £923.40 discount over list. I suspect there's room to haggle...I'm rubbish at haggling.

FWIW the deal is worth £24951.60 - on a (don't shoot me) Renaultsport Megane 250

Oh no.....! horrible and if its anything like the last one you'll never be away from the dealership with problems, then theres also the pathetic sell on fee :o

All valid points but it goes like stink, handles brilliantly and looks fantastic (to my jaded eyes at least).

I know it's French and looks a bit ungamely but it is a class leader in hot hatches. Faster than the new Focus RS around the track, believe me. As the dealer is offering above trade value for your Fabia it is a good deal, personally I'l be pushing the dealer for a couple of extras on the Megane for free, you won't be able to do better on the cash part off the deal. Try for a couple of years servicing, full tank of fuel and other accessories you would like. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

After all the trouble we went to of speccing you up a nice affordable porsche, you go for a Renault :( :(

take the mods off seperately before you sell it!

Yeah but for a £1000 more you can get a new shape focus RS !!! o and these do go like stink and are reliable,

I fully support your choice of the megane. Renault sport cars are made in a different factory than the bog standard ones, it'll be fine.

Renaultsports aren't unreliable. I wish people would stop throwing them into the same pan as a standard Renault. They're made in a completely different factory for a start. So good choice on the 250 front

On the car issue, I'm in general agreement. I'd strip the mods that you can (especially if you've kept original parts) and then just put the car up at a reasonable price on here/PH/'Trader as a standard vRS example. You've going to make more than PX easily, so why not do it that way?

my uncle is a mechanic for Renault and has been for 20 years or so, only reason been is that he will always be in work ,

he said the higher end stuff tends to be less reliable than the smaller engine stuff,

thats why he drives a vw.

Had a megane 225 for 2 years had it mapped to 260bhp 275lbft by RS tuning never missed a beat! awesome car, but thirsty :p

where does he work ?

i work for Renault and the 1.2 16v engine id say is the most unreliable from the entire range, never really have any problems with the 2.0L+ stuff, especially the sports

Sunwin Renault Bradford,

all i hear him saying about renaultsport clio's, the cam-belts snap like an elastic band,

and im not saying the 1.2's are great

Really don't like the look of the Ford. No, the Megane has the right mix of comfort, toys and performance for me I think.

ROFL @ the 'reasonably priced Porsche'. A £35K Boxster plus £25k of extras :giggle:

I presume we're talking vRS here (yes, your profile confirms it). Mine was September 2004 on a 54 plate, 65k, Black Magic, Cruise, 6 disc, leather - but no other mods and in reasonably good condition - but needing an MOT and service shortly, and possibly attention to the rear brakes. I got £4,500 trade in against a £10k second-hand replacement - though he only offered £4k initially, and I also negotiated a £150 contribution to the impending cam belt swap on the newer one - but I couldn't persuade them to pay for registration transfer.

I recently went in to Basingstoke Skoda and they offered me £3,500 for 54 on 60,000 miles as I didnt think it was full service history, but turns out it is just not stamped in the book. Phew, god knows what I would get trade in now though :S

Dealers will always knock you down, I will look for a proper price when I am serious about getting an Octy estate.

If I were you I would strip the bits and then try flogging it
