Standard map for mk1 octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

A few months ago I had an APR trial map put on my mk1 octy vrs. It was epic, loads of power, but the one thing that bugged me was the way it released boost so abruptly. If you're on boost, and you ease off a little bit, it will dump all the boost and the car will jerk. It also seems to be 'twitchy' at part throttle (Could be a dirty tb tho). It didn't do this at all before the map.

The map has now expired, which I thought would have cured it, but it's still there. :(

From what I understand, when the map expires, it doesn't go 100% back to the skoda map. It only goes back to APR's 'representation' of the skoda map (i.e. oem boost levels etc). It seems that the boost control on APR's standard map is different to the skoda map. The skoda map is a lot more gentle, and easier to drive.

Is this right? From what I have heard, if you want to get the full map put on, all you need is a pin number to type in on the cruise stalk. In which case, the ecu code must be different, and the map will still be there somewhere.

The engine seems to be really healthy, did a rr run of 190bhp/201ft-lb's on standard mapping, so wouldn't think it is the maf or anything.

Is it possible to put the OEM code back into the ECU? Removing all traces of APR code?

i have the apr map must admit mit when i first got it was the same as described above,

but now seems to have sorted its self out and power is very smooth,

Definately doesn't sound like they put a completely standard map back on.

Standard should be 180bhp / 175 ft/lbs torque

There are some cars see closer to 190bhp and 180 ft/lbs torque (mine included) on a standard map but your torque figure is way more than that.

If they can't put a bog standard map back on for you a dealer might be able to do it... but will probably charge a small fortune :dull:

It is possible, either an APR dealer can do it for you (generally Skoda dealers can't do it) or we could sort it out for you.

a MAF can be fine on a standard map but not always on a remap, I found this out :'(

Just to clarify, it ran the 190 /201 before the trial map was installed.

That was on awesomegti's rollers, and other standard vrs's were running on the day, making around 190 ft-lb's, so perhaps the rollers were a little optimistic.

Shark, I was actually thinking of getting you guys to remap it anyway, but I want to fix all the loose suspension first :dull:

No problem, we can sort both out at the same time if you like, so no need to make two trips, and you won't be charged any extra to remove the APR code

Are you 100% it's the map and not any of the pipes or the dump valve?? Extra boost of the map may have split a weak pipe or something?? Just a guess!! lol

I've had a look and listen, but can't see or hear any leaks. No fault codes coming up on vag com either.

It still boosts well, but it just seems to release it too suddenly. It's not smooth anymore.

Are you running the original dump valve?

Yep.

Was thinkin of changing it fro a forge one though. The one that's on is 9 years old lol, only got 40k miles tho.. B)

Might be worth getting the forge one first and seeing if that's the problem??

Yeah, might be worth a shot, got a day off tomorrow, so I'm planning to do a full check of all the hoses etc, and see if anything's amiss.

May even do a pressure test too.

I'm ordering this one tomorrow, was thinking about a forge one but it's £30 less, so worth a go :)

That ones actually in my ebay watch list

There's a thread on here somewhere with praise for it too!
