What Car

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've moved my original question from the newbie area, in the search of answers, suggestions and general comments.

I'm on the lookout for a new car, and think I have narrowed it down to the fabia estate, but with a limited budget aprox 3k, it will inevitably have a higher mileage.

With all the expertise on here, could you let me know; does the fabia continue to be mechanically sound as the miles add up or is there a pattern of faults?

What should I generally be looking out for?

My current car is the clio 172 cup, but it's time to retire the car to a more sedate lifestyle, I am looking at the TDI rather than the SDI, as I do plenty of motorway miles, but will appreciate all feedback.

Thanks for your time.

The usual fabia faults are - console bushes wear out (rattles and clonks from front end), rear doors leak water(your carpets get wet!) , power steering angle sensor goes (steering warning light on dash lights up), flap motors for heater go wrong (you cant adjust hot to cold), elec window mechanism breaks (lose the window inside door!) , small leak from collant temp sensor take off on radiator (easy fix but watch out for small puddles of coolant around front of car) and also make sure the cambelt/water pump/tensioners have been changed every 4 yrs or 60000 miles. If you get all of these on one car you will be very unlucky however , just be aware that these things CAN happen on a Fabia. Good luck with your search.
