Forgive me for being thick but why do all write-ups I've read on the Skoda Diesel engines refer to them having four ignition coils ?

Do Diesel engines have coils ?

What does it mean ?

Very strange I'd say.

I assume that was a Skoda press release, those exact same words are all over the internet

Diesels have glow plugs, not coils as per petrol. The glow plugs warm the cylinders at startup to allow smoother ignition when cold.(or there abouts)

Maybe the "coils" are the glow plugs. IIRC, a lot of cars show coils or spring-looking like dash lights for the glow plugs. :confused:
