Greetings and Octavia VRS Mk1 questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

One time Skoda Rapid (best fun on 4 wheels of any car owned) owner been lurking for a while. Seems I have to post here before I can start threads in other places?

Getting sick of my 1999 Volvo V70 - fuel economy, handling, auto box, boredem... Would really like a Fabia VRS but can't afford one as this is our second car. I really like the idea of the Octavia VRS as these seem cheaper, but hate the Golf mk IV platform on, well mk iV Golfs - stodgy and joyless. The first question is, did Skoda make something of this chassis with the mk1 VRS or is it still a bit naff? Will hopefully test drive one soon but would be good to know what to expect.

Are these mk1 Octavias getting a bit tired now and best left alone? Don't want to inherit a costly nightmare. The Volvo might be dull but it is built to last.

Also, I've heard the economy on these 1.8T engines is quite good. Could it better 17-19mpg around town? Yep, my 2.4 non-turbo Volvo auto gives these incredible figures - £75 takes me about 260 miles!

Cheers,

Sam.

Hi. Welcome to Briskoda!!

As long you get one with a good service history, that's been looked after, the 1.8t engine will go for ever (well almost). The chassis is quite good as standard, but theres a lot you can do to it to make a huge difference. B)

Mine is driven enthusiastically most of the time, and usually does around 28 mpg.

Welcome , so what is your other car

Thanks for the replies. Seems like the 1.8T is pretty good then. Other car is, you've guessed it, a Volvo. V50 2.0D. Nice little car that just about fits the family in and drives very well. Good economy too. Wife usually has this and I'm stuck driving the V70 around. I walk whe I can! Is there a 4x4 diesel Octavia Mk1 available?

Sam.
