Drop Link & CV Boot Failure

Featured Replies

Evening,

Just had my car back from it's 80K service and my friend told me that the knocking I'm getting at the front passenger side is because my drop link has had it. Also the passenger side drive shaft/cv boot has split.

Suspension wise the car is running on Weitec Coilovers and has been poly bushed, it had new strut mounts and bump stops fitted all round today so next is the drop links and cv boot.

Having looked on ETKA at the price of a cv boot it seems ridiculous at around 50 odd quid.

I've had a look around at VWSpares and Jorily and they only list an "Outer CV Boot", I would have thought they would be identical on each side?

VW Spares

Jorily

The other alternative is something like this?

eBay

Which one would you recommend?

Cheers,

John

They are identical side to side, but there is a CV joint at each end of the drive shaft, and inner and outer. The inner boot is different as it's a bigger cv joint.

my personal advice having bought copy parts and even OEM boots from GSF is buy original parts from a dealer when it comes to VAG CV boots. Even the GKN (VAG OEM) boots from GSF kept coming off. I wasnt impressed. :wonder:

Ah I understand Moggy.

It's the side closest to the wheel, so presumably that makes it the Passenger Side Outer Boot.

I think I'll just phone Skoda tomorrow and get genuine parts on order.

Pay cheap, pay twice is usually the case when it comes to these cars.

Just wanted to update that I may have got the price wrong with regards to the boot.

Looking at ETKA again it appears the price and part numbers are as follows.

Drop Link - 6QO 411 315 N - £21.10 for 2

Outer CV Boot - 6QO 498 203 B - £16.40 for 2

I shall phone Skoda tomorrow and confirm.

Cheers

First price you got would be for a complete CV joint mate.

I've a genuine replacement cv boot on the passenger side, and then a GKN one on the drivers side. And both creek like crazy on any sort of moderate lock.

Not had a problem them coming off though.

Do they have grease in them like they're supposed to!?
