Blown Turbo - How common?

Featured Replies

How common is turbo failure on the PD130? Is it a well known issue?

Not all that common. It is not helped by KKK turbos not being as good as Garretts. However, a well looked after, unabused car I would expect to go over 150,000 miles on the original turbo. Some are just unlcuky, some expected with occasional heavy use. I would never call it a real issue as considering how many vRS there are out there, you don't hear of turbo failures every single day.

I think Devonuntopia's post says it all really.

Ultimately, all turbos fail. If you change the oil regularly with the proper stuff and let the car warm up and cool down properly they'll go a very long way.

Cars that do long runs tend to have turbos that live longer than ones that do 10 miles and get shut down again. Like most things mechanical, it's starting it up and turning it off that does the damage.

And obviously cars with outrageous remaps and huge boost tend to die fastest. If I'd just bought a remapped 6-year old vRS with 30,000 miles on it that had been used as a shopping trolley, I'd not expect the turbo to last long.

Yes all above is correct and as stated they are a mechanical rotating componant that can and will give up the ghost as and when they choose.

Mine has blown on a 2007 VRS with 39200 miles and at least 25000 of those are motorways. I will admit the car was not always cooled down after runs but generally never blasted from cold.

However the Turbo still blew up and is being replaced with a Garret replacement.

Yes cars with extreme remaps will take more out of the turbo but on the whole the turbos should last. SHOULD being the operative word.

I just am the unlucky one to loose a turbo so early on in the cars life.

oh well **** happens. gulp,

tbh the fabia turbo whether kkk or garretts seem to be a weak point of the car....

which ever way members cover it / tart it up it is a serious problem!

uprate to a garret pd150 and you'll be fine, if i was still running a pd130 turbo its the first thing i would do

A turbo should not be going at 25k with full main dealer service history, even a bloody Veyron Turbo will probaly outlast that!
