interference from usb charging socket

Featured Replies

Hi, I've been installing extra charge points so my power for my satnav and ipod are internal and the cabling is tidy and always on (with ignition).

I've taken a 12v feed from the radio loom, this goes to a standard cigarette lighter socket which has a lighter/usb adapter plugged in. Attached to this adapter is my power for my Garmin Sat nav and a standard ipod cable which feeds power to the ipod.

The iPod is then connected to my radio via aux in, however this morning I noticed interference when the ipod is charging, it;s not static, more like something closer to data (it has a pulse).

I'm planning in replacing the ipod with a new iphone soon which will stream to the radio via bluetooth, which I hope by breaking the hard link to the radio (currently aux in) will remove the interference problem (i'm wondering if it's a feedback-like issue with the ipod being essentially connected in a full circle.

However I wondered if anyone else has found that the 12v power from the radio isn't 'clean' enough and causes similar issues when charging audio devices?

Thanks

Lou
