Test a Yeti offroad

Featured Replies

If any of you chaps want to test out what your Yeti can do, Slindon Safari are open this Sunday.

It's £30 for the day and you can take your own car onto their offroad course. If you do get it stuck you can find a marshall to winch you out, or more often that not someone else will find you first and tow you out.

There is everything from some gravel tracks with a bit of mud to some axle twisters to show you your axle articulation, also some very steep hills. There are sections for all cars.

Last time I was there I was people in Freelanders, little Suzukis, Tiguans, etc. Well worth a trip down if you fancy finding out what it is capable of.

It's always scary the first time you get a wheel off the ground and you're balancing around!

From 10am to 4pm.

It's the SLINDON one NOT the boxgrove one.

It's a large site and it doesn't feel crowded even when it's a busy day. Plus at the moment it shouldn't be too bad mudwise as we've had little rain so it will mostly be gravel/sand.

Just don't try anything too difficult.

Last time I was there (last month actually) I saw 2 cars end up either on their sides or upside down.

But those 2 guys purposely wanted to find out what the limits of the cars where, they didn't seem to care as they where purpose built toys, you won't see anyone in a new Discovery doing anything like that!

There are plenty of manmade hills and what not to test your car on, especially your hill descent mode on your Yeti, if it's fitted.

Another photo of the smallest hills.

Just remember to look before you leap. Which I'm sure all ofroaders know.

Otherwise you could come unstuck as the site has some difficult sections.

I've bent a few Land Rover panels there testing what they can do.

I just avoid the 'outback' section. No point even trying in there, that is where I managed to dent both sides of the C pillar.

If she parks like that, she sure can get into some tight spaces, eh?

What do people do about insurance for these kind of events? My insurance policy specifically excludes off-roading.

Richard,

most people just accept that if they bend it they have to mend it themselves, I'm afraid.

At least if you go "green laning" you are still using a public highway, so therefore your insurance still covers you.

I agree, if you bend it offroad you have little chance of the insurance being interested... unless you lie about what happened. :o

Some policies will include offroad cover, but you have to find someone who does and pay for it.
