Pd130 To Pd150?

Featured Replies

Whats peoples opinions my turbo has just blown and i want to know where i go now?

Do i buy a pd150 turbo?

Do i have to upgrade anything else if i do?

Do i have to re-remap it to suit the turbo?

Which is the best?

Is the PD150 alot more expensive?

Thanks and i apologise in advance that i havent searched but its because im on my phone

How much money do you want to spend?

How much power do you want?

You need to clarify some things from your end as well. ;)

PD150 turbo = GT1749B and it's sought after, so unless you're lucky, budget up to £1000. It has a bigger compressor and a thicker shaft than the normal Garrett or KKK turbos.

Remap: You should ask the mappers what's possible. Some over on SCN have run uprated turbos without immediately upgrading the intercooler. If I did this, I'd like to know what power I could expect and if it was possible to get that limiting torque to say 270lbft. That might save you a clutch. Consider a decat pipe if you go the bigger turbo route to partly offset the slower spooling on a bigger turbo.

EDIT: Just been on Turbodynamic's site. Seems a "150" turbo can be had for £750 and I can't see a requirement for exchange components at this stage. Didn't complete the transaction obviously but that's not too bad... :)

My recent Hybrid project left about £40 change from £2.5k which included a new Sachs clutch, Garrett Stage#1 hybrid turbo, oils, filters, camshaft check, all labour & re-map to suit.

The Hybrid turbo came in at about £200 more than a PD150 replacement unit. I wasn't keen on fiting a 2nd hand turbo TBH hence the decision to upgrade the lot including the clutch.

I bought a PD150 turbo from turbodynamics a couple of moths ago and it was under £800. PLus it was only £100ish more than a standard KKK PD130. I didn't have to exchange mine either, i think they only want an exchange if you're hybriding it.

As for mine its still running on the generic stage 1 map and it seems to work fine

any faster? have you got a fmic??

I am also running a PD150 turbo with my original generic map, car runs fine with it. In terms of driving the car, I noticed it was more eager to rev than the old KKK, and a massive reduction in black soot - probably die to the turbo moving more air.

See my post here of rolling road results that I got yesterday http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/168850-rolling-road-results/

also find its happier to spool up. Plus when the turbooes kick in, it feels like theres more of a "punch" if you know what i mean!
