vRS Power Delivery.

Featured Replies

I currently own a Fabia vRS but went out for a spin in an Octavia vRS yesterday as was looking to PX my car for it.

One thing I must say is it doesnt feel as quick as the Fabia AT ALL. I was expecting to feel at least some sort of kick when the turbo spooled up but no :(

Even up to 60/70MPH it seemed a bit lacking compared to the Fabia. What should the power delivery be like on these?

I walked away in the end due to a few issues with it (Black, 76K, marked up at £4500, flat tyre, rust on arch, bonnet wouldnt open, scratches all over door handles, cracked rear lens, kerbed alloys, brakes were rubbish albeit had been sitting a while, and **** all left on the tyres and no tax but still wanted £200 for it with my car)....so for obvious reasons, I'm wondering if it was just THAT car that was a bit poo.

£4500 he's avin a laugh, you should get a late Mk1 in good condition for that much, and it should be faster than youv'e described. You did the right thing walking away from that one.

To be honest, the turbo kickwas very mild before my remap at 46k, now its a kick in the pants :)

Never seen one with body rust either.

same ere never seen rust on a octy before,

also should give a good kick at 3k

think you did the right thing mate ould of been trouble

to be honest mate they spool up so smoothly that you don't really feel it, they are quite deceptive unlike a diesel that gives you a big kick. If you watch the speedo you will realise how quick they are. That said get a remap and they are unbelievable.

yep, were you a passenger? I believe you feel it plenty more if you are the passenger as you aren't prepared for acceleration, i drove one way and he drove me back and thought this isn't greatly quick when he drove me back i was bricking it lol. Diesels pull hard between a certain rpm, the pull and torque might be higher but you are comparing about 2000 rpm of real hard pull of a diesel to about 4000 rpm of linear smooth pull on the petrol.

From the sounds of how you describe the car OP it probably had a knackered engine which hadn't been looked after anyway!

Nah I was driving it the whole time.

and yeah, I realise the petrol would be alot smoother due to the wider powerband, but was somewhat disappointed at the distinct lack of a kick. It was kinda what I loved about the Fabia and how it was deceptively quick, and the huge spike in torque made it feel like it was gonna take off. But if thats sorted with a remap..... B) that and an exhaust/CAI cos I miss the good ol' petrol sound.

but bg kick in the back means nowt a smoother power delivery will equal a much faster car

you can get them to map it for a big kick but will run out of juice very quick

octy is not a 0 -60 car its all about mid to top end

octy will be alot faster :p

From your description, the octy sounds like it was in a pretty poor state, prob overdue a good service and would'nt be at all supprised if such a badly kept example was being run on the wrong grade of fuel.

I own an octy vrs and a fabia vrs and think (from memory) that in standard trim they would prob be a close match for each other up to say 60mph, but after that the octy would start to pull away.

Unfortunately I cant go out and test the above cos my octy has'nt been standard for over 3 years...... and the fabia is defo going to remain std engine power wise.

You can't compare the two really. The Fabia gives the illusion of being quick as it has so much torque right down the revs. But the Octy is so smooth you can be doing licence losing speeds in 3rd or 4th gear without even realising it. Even my sisters 90bhp Seat Leon TDI feels quicker than my VRS from a standing start but if you were to put the two cars side by side the Octy would be romping away

That said the Octy can't cruise in 6th gear on the motorway like a Furb

I find the power delivery very dull and flat feeling, but that is because the torque curve is very flat but it is very effective and capable. That aside it souldn't be rusty, smells of crashed or poorly treated to me.

I agree with everyone else here about the smooth power delivery making it not 'feel' quick.

The same thing happened to be about 6 years ago, I test drove a Nissan 200SX (S14a) and that did not feel quick. No doubt they are fast, just with no other cars around to compare the acceleration against, it felt slow.

Then I test drove a 206 GTi and it felt quick and fun so I bought that.

Like people say, look at the speedo :o Then you realise

Although I like the feel of a hot hatch, I think those days are behind me. I want a smooth car that can cope with the s*****ty roads we have, but also has overtaking GRUNT :giggle:

Octy vRS -
