When should cam belt be changed

Featured Replies

I should be buying a vrs tonight. It's done 89,000 miles with F.history. I'm

buying it from a dealer and he told me that it doesn't need to be done on these cars until 100,000 miles. I thought it was 60,000 miles??

This will cost me alot when it need to be done soon.

Please help!

Rob

Cambelt should be changed every 4 years or 60,000miles

Yeah I thought so. How much is this to be done?

Try and get the cambelt done as part of the deal, or get £400 knocked off the price

I'll have to negotiate that in the price then. It's up for £4k at the moment.

Its now 4 years and 80k miles - new belts last more miles but same age... bit odd but garage showed me when my cambelt was done in may.

That's completely different to what the service schedule says.

This is something that's really confusing me too, as there's lots of conflicting information out there. My service schedule says "Replace Toothed Belt (PD engines)" every 120,000km, which is just over 74,500 miles.

Then again, I hear it's as low as 40k miles. Mines on 38k, so not sure when to have it done.

I had an Alfa 145 twin spark, and they had to halve it from 72k to 36k, as so many belts went twang, so not sure I should go by the book!

+1 to this on all my cars i have owned.

So would you say it's worth buying this car at 89,000 miles without a cam belt change for £4k. I'll obviously negotiate the price down due to the cost of the cam belt being changed.

Or should I wait little longer for the next one that I like

i would say so yes, try get them to throw in the belt change too, if not try haggle for half of it paying for .
