Fabia vRS ARB

Featured Replies

I heard that Eibach to a front ARB for the Fabia vRS, how much and where from, and is it true that it eliminates understeer to the point where you dont know where the limit is and then it just snaps at you and you'll loose control, or is it just a more progressive understeer. Pics if anyone can & a price and is it visible?

sorry for a lot of questions but the vRS really handles like a turd in comparison to my brothers clio 182 at corners and i'd like to atleast stay 50% with him.

Be interested in this to :)

So why didnt you just buy a Clio then?

Is it because you are a chav in denial?

Yes, and because i'm 20, and I need economy and the insurance is lower, and its more practical, and it's a nice compromise, and its more exclusive, and i only had just over 10k to spend (got my furby with 1k miles on for

**Edit: Sorry just realised its a front ARB you're interested in. Will write you a proper response when I have time (i.e. not at work!)

You can't compare the handling as the Clio is waffer thin and is about 1100kgs where as the Fabia is built to last and weights about 1300kgs.

2 totally different cars.

 Funny if said with a french accent, reminds me of Mr Creosote sketch on Monty Pythons 'Meaning of life'

The ARB will help control the bodyroll when cornering, but due to the setup of the std suspension on the fabia, it will make understeer worse.

and I rekon its not suited to uprated suspension either due to the fabia not having a rear ARB. im happy with the setup of my eibachs at the moment.. its got very netural handling and drifts quite nicely when provoked :D

The eibach spring/damper kit + front strut brace would be the best way to go to achieve improved ride and handling from it IMO. However its never going to corner like a tin-can on wheels like a Clio. Having said that, I'm sure if you are determined enough you should just about stay with him...

Something no-one else has mentioned is tyre choice! Ditching the OEM ones that came on the car and getting some decent rubber will significantly reduce understeer, although I'd recommending doing the suspension at the same time. :D

ARB is visible, but you'd have to be under the car to see it ;)

...... and then pass him when he has to pull in to fill up with petrol ;)

I had a quick 0-100 blast against him on our private track yesterday, his car's got a green panel filter and a few other mods (none engine so no performance increase), and mine has the cupra intake and a green panel filter, he pulled about 9 car lenghts on me :( if not more...

But are you surprised? If you play the Clio at its own game your going to lose because diesels are crap dragsters. Its all about the midrange, and even then the Clio has a vastly better power to weight ratio. But seriously, how much real world driving involves such drag racing like that?

IMO even a remapped 1.8T would struggle slightly against that.

Right, now I'm back from work I can properly answer your question.

What you have to remember is that you will be altering a setup that Skoda has spent a few million $$$ on developing. However they have decided the ride/handling compromise for you and maybe this is not to your choice. However I digress.....

By fitting a thicker ARB you will reduce the cars resistance to roll into corners. If the car rolls less there is less lateral weight transfer thus allowing the tyres to keep a greater contact patch (a similar effect to lowering the car). This is turn will give you more grip.

However be aware that a thicker ARB will induce more bump-steer (having the steering wheel writhe in your hands down bumpy B-roads etc). It will also cause the transition from neutral state to understeer to be more agressive.

My advice (along with ScoobyChris's) is to firstly invest in some quality tyres as they can not only dramatically affect ride/handling, but will also be to your benefit in braking too!

Good luck!

But his car is lighter AND has more power...

i think a remap would change things :D

More good advice  also... the eibach vRS springs are actually cheaper than the ARB and will make a much bigger improvement :) (my dealer didnt spot the springs... as they are black like the OEM items) ;) but the silver dampers might have given the game away :o

It would still lose.

It would still lose.
Handling: Yes - altho it would take a skilled driver to prove it.

0-60: depends on driver

qtr mile: bout even

0-100: Fabia

and they would be about even on a cross country blat, exept fabia being more comfortable and easier to keep up :D

and before you question me.... i used to own a 172 :P

Autocar did something like 0-100 in 16.4 seconds in the Clio 182. While I dont doubt it'd be a closer battle, I still dont think a well driven Fabia vRS + Remap will keep up with a std Clio 182. The power to weight ratio is still by far better in the Clio at that point.

However, midrange I agree the Fabia would have it IMO, and for me thats a far more relevant figure of drivability than silly straight line drags.

And the Fabia isnt made out of tin foil, isnt french and looks much better...
