Alternative Pd160 intake parts

Hi all after reading over about 20 different threads i have decided to not buy all of the parts for the PD160 but instead source other parts.

I have ordered the trumpet part for £16.57 from my local Parts specialist, this will give me two holes of the same size (roughly 90mm), one on the airbox and one within the intake/trumpet part.

I then ordered some of this My link for £27incl delivery.

My question is lol, will it work?

yeah working now mate :)

and yeah i dont see why not, as long as you create a good seal between the joins to prevent any air escaping and to create a good vacuum. im also interested in doing this mod but dont want to pay the ridiculous prices so please get back to me to let me know how you get on :)

will do mate, ill possibly even set up kits to buy dependant on how good i can get the parts to fit together.

I've since sourced a company called nuneaton hose and fittings which is like 1min from my house lol, so im taking the ibiza trumpet to them tomorrow and there gonna help me decide which is the best hose to use and the easiest way to secure it best :).

They said they have some 98mm id black hosing which will look more stock than blue or silver.

Ill report back with prices etc and see if i can get any interest

There was a home made PD160 on my car when I bought it.

The previous owner made a mahoosive air intake out of fibreglass

which was moulded onto the actual intake sleeve which he had also modded

by removing the internal water deflector.

This "unit" was then attatched to the existing PD130 tubing using some 3"+

silicone hose and some big jubilee clips. Personally I couldn't see the point using the

130 pipe as surely this will negate any benefit provided by the much bigger

"trumpet-sleeve" thingy he manufactured.

As luck would have it I managed to find the rarest of beasts, a Brisky member who

had a proper PD160 he no longer wanted and was happy to take just £20 for it. :o

So I binned the homemade jobbie and put the much more oem looking and effective

intake on. I had to get a new intake sleeve for the car (about £11 main dealer)

as the modded one had no water flap in it. Although some of you do this to you cars ,

to my mind it's a bit of a dodgy mod anyway. Lot of puddles on our rubbish roads :yes:

The only pitfall I can see with this idea generally, is that it will be an obvious and visible modification

to anybody who lifts your bonnet for a nosy.

But then, if all your mods are declared then there shouldn't be a problem... ;)

May I also add, that in order to retain the oem look under my bonnet, I was

perfectly prepared to pay full whack for one if I had needed to. I was just very

lucky to find a very decent fellow who wasn't just out for a fast buck and realised

that it's only a stupid plastic pipe at the end of the day :D

Digging up a dead and buried thread I know but what was the end result of this?

There's no way I'm shelling out £90 for 2 bits of plastic from the SEAT stealership!
