Weight of vRS Spiders?

Does anyone know the weight of the standard 17'' spiders without tyres?

Heavy mate compared to 18" team dynamic PR 1.2 lol.

At a guess I'd say around the 12 kg mark with tyre around 25 pos. Only a guess mind.

Yeah Steve (steviewonder) commented on how much lighter the 18" TD 1.2's are than the standard wheels. They are pretty beefy! I can weigh a wheel and tyre, as I have one rolling around in my sitting room!

Someone has been selling some bare wheels in the for sale section, so maybe he could weigh one for you.

Cheers mate, that's why I was asking just for the courier pricing.

On another note it might convince me to get some other wheels down the line, but I like the OEM look.

Who actually manufacturers these wheels?

Yeah I love the OE look too. As soon as you put something non-standard on you start to draw attention. I prefer to have fun on the sly!

But yeah good excuse for some nice light 17" silver TD PR 1.2's. They wouldn't stand out too much.

No idea who actually makes the standard wheels. I've been over the couple of new ones I have, and there is no obvious indication of manufacturer. The Skoda logo is cast into them, along with "Made in Germany". Also has the JWL standard logo cast in (Japan Light Alloy Wheel standard). The only cast in letters other than the part number and dimensions are "BOH" and "K1" in plain font, so not sure if they mean anything. I would of thought it would be someone like Ronal/Borbet/BBS, but nothing to indicate so. Someone German!!

Borbet make them iirc :)

Hi weellll,

When I bought my car I bought a second spare wheel (just incase), and its in my garage.

After reading this thread I thought hmmmmm I wonder, so this anoon did it (couldnt remove the tire sorry lol).

I used a kerns digital gauge (goes upto 25kg), standard spider alloy fitted with Continental Conti-sport 205/50 R17 93W inflated to 32psi.

I tied a rope round one of the joists and a rope loop round the wheel and tyre, zeroed the gauge, hooked the wheel on it andddd

The answer is, (drum roll), 18.9 kg emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Hope this helps

Yeah good idea emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif ,

Get the wheel here and its a done deal. Personally tho', considering the crap road surfaces round here I feel happier

having a fairly robust alloy, having hit some deep pot holes in recent months.

Wow,

thats one light wheel.

Peter

yup they are really light, When the new rim came in the box I was a bit concerned lol as it felt like nothing in there.

When you have them on the car tho OMG what a diff it makes. just waiting for funds to get some good tyres on them then they will be back on.

My MAK XLR 18.x8s are 8.7kg each! :)
