DVD coding/burning times

Featured Replies

I'm using a 5yr old PC to rip avis onto DVD  Nero 8 on a P4 3Ghz HT, 1.5Gb RAM, plenty of HDD, ripping 4 episodes of a TV prog onto a standard 5gb DVD and its taking about 3 hours.

How long would it take on a new machine? Nothing fancy just a reasonable home spec.

I have done similar after downloading a free program off internet "DVD Flick". (ALL LEGAL AND ABOVE BOARD)

I had loads of asf and avi's videos wanting transferring to normal 4.5GB DVD.

The asf took a long time to transfer, but short 1 to 2 minute avi took but a few minutes.

Getting to know how and what to do with program was easy, once learnt.

Running 'Windows XP' on an 2007 iMac 2.16Ghz Dual-core, 3GB RAM, (using bootcamp facility to allow this possible), using 'DVD Flick'

Will do the job without too much loss of image or sound, but something for nothing can't complain really.

Using convertX to dvd on an oldish PC (can't remember the entire specs, but 2gig ram, win 7, Intel dual core not very fast, 512mb nvidia graphics), the whole process takes just over an hour for a 90 min film.
