FMIC - realistic power?

Featured Replies

Ok, I'm torn at the moment. I have a piper cat back exhaust ready to go on the vRS and I was thinking about fitting a FMIC before having a remap, but wondered what difference ther will be in power, with or without the IC but with a decent map???

How would a FMIC affect drivability and fuel economy?

Am I better off just making sure the car is regularly serviced with decent items and fit the exhaust + remap, or is a decent FMIC the way forward?

What other bits would I have to replace with a FMIC?

Cheers

Craig

FMIC doesn't add power, just lowers heat soak.

i think there are probly better things to spend your mmoney on mate. just done some logging on mine as its being remapped tomorrow and the highest inlet temps were 54 degrees and that was at a standstill after a 0>3 figure run (kms honest guv)

and it soon got temps back down to around 15 above ambient even with full boost going thru it.. maybe different if the boost is higher maybe tho?

they look a right pita to fit too

You need to buy a replacement downpipe with high flow cat to go with the cat back exhaust. The downpipe will free the exhaust gases, allow more torque to be gained when you get it remapped as you will have stage 2 map rather than stage 1.

FMIC is a good mod as it will allow you to drive the car harder without getting heatsoak.

Or a de-cat pipe?

In theory then, a FMIC simply reduces the power lost through heatsoak?

Yep.

You'll find even with just a basic remap doing 210bhp you can't get the same power again and again.

We tested my mates car over the winter with the standard side mount intercooler just after it had been remapped and on the first run (20 degree inlet temp) it made 213bhp, 2nd run a few minutes later at 30 degrees it had gone down to 207bhp then final run at 40 degrees it was only 193bhp :o

He's got a Forge FMIC fitted now and although we haven't done any measurements he reckons it feels quick every time, not just when it's cold.
