Another Maxidot question - sorry

Featured Replies

I am pretty sure i have maxidot on my car as it shows what door has been left open and also other little bits but whenever i scroll through the display to show the engine oil temperature it always shows three dashes, never shows the temperature? Is there something wrong with it or do i not have maxidot? I am pretty sure i do have it as it shows what songs i am playing on my ipod and gived me the low fuel warnings and stuff like that.

You've got a maxidot display. The oil temperature displays 3 dashes until the oil temp actually gets to 50 deg Celius or above - then it actually displays the no.s.

It only shows the oil temperature when it above 50 degrees if I remember correctly, so once the engine has been running for a few minutes it should show the temerature

thanks guys, there must be something wrong then as over the weekend i travelled about 1000 miles and it never displayed, my longest hourneyt was 4 hours non stop but it still didnt show. Maybe i will ask the dealer to look at it when it comes to servicing ( which at this rate wont be long as i am covering way too many miles!)

Hi Guys, i wonder if you could help me, i have a Octavia 4x4 Estate 1.9 pd model its a 2006 (55) i was hoping that someone would be able to tell me wether or not i could put a maxidot display into my car or not, i have been to my local dealer but as usual they were not sure. Ben (shark_90) has done a few Maxidot retrofits, may be worth pinging him a PM

If the option isn't ticked then it doesn't appear on the display as you cycle through.

I suspect a loose connection on the temperature sensor or a faulty sensor as the display is showing --- as my car does when the oil is still cold

thanks for that

If your car is on the variable service schedule (factory setting) then the oil temperature WILL be displayed above 50 C, If you have had your car set for the annual service schedule by your dealer when new then the oil temperature will NOT be shown. Your dealer can alter this to show oil temp. when car is on annual service. I had to do this, but it took the dealer 2 days to find out how to do it, he had to refer to Skoda UK tech. people.

Thats it then as it seems to be set for servicing on a yearly basis or in the next 5000 miles ( i suspect the 5000 miles will come first though)

Thanks for your help!

My owners manual (supplement 11/2009) says the multi-functional indicator shows oil temperature if temp is above 50C and the measuring system is working otherwise it shows three dashes. I presume "multi-functional indicator" means maxidot.

This options is for the car manufactured from week 48/2009 until now.

What exactly is the point of the oil temp guage?

Mine seems to go to about 95 degrees. So what? Is that good/bad/normal/indifferent ?

It would be a lot more useful to have an oil level gauge.

(sorry to sound a bit negative - hope someone comes up with a reason for its presence!)

While the oil level gouge would be so nice, oil temp tells you when to "not" punish your car. Also it's a good indication of how engine is running and if it's being worked too hard.

Normally it stays 95-102, but i've had it up to 116C on mountainous twisty roads fully loaded and i like to watch it as it goes up and telling me to chillout a little with the gas pedal.

Interesting piece of info. How can one find out week of manufacture. My car was registered just before Xmas so I guess it was manufactured in November.
