Slightly Concerned. Engine Management Light has turned on

Featured Replies

The car had a full service including cambelt change approx 2 weeks ago and all has been fine in the world however I have noticed since changing the cambelt the car has juddered a little more than before when turning the engine off.

We're up in Northumberland (Berwick Upon Tweed) this week with the caravan and the car has been perfectly fine until today when I started up togo out for the day when the engine management light came on. We proceeded with the day out and tried not to think anything of it as there were no strange running noises/smells/vibrations however it has become a little stuttery at lower revs making me think its a fault with the EGR valve.

No other tell tale signs of what the problem could be, performance is as normal, no smoke and still returning normal mpg through a 60miles journey today.

Thanks

Matthew

Can you get to a Dealer anywhere nearby and see if they can diagnose the fault?

Or have you got RAC Cover? you could ask for a Skoda Tech to come out

I've had this at around 75k miles on my Mk1 and mk2 Octavia.. allways turned out to be a minor fault which the dealer did for free! on my last last mk2 Octavia it was the exhaust emission valve at fault, what ever that is!?

Have you checked that all the vacuum pipes have been replaced after cambelt replacement?

I could have a look on SUK website to see where the nearest dealer is but we need to be off the campsite by 10am, I know I should have done that today but I really didn't want to spoil the boys holiday and with it running pretty much the same as normal I'm not overly worried.

I have AA cover should the worst happen.

All vacum pipes have been refitted, I had a look today and can't see any that have popped off.

Quick Update

We're home and not a break down van in sight  although we did have to stop about 10miles from home when I saw the temperature gauge start to rise past the 90 mark and round to the red, sat for a few mins with the bonnet up and the climate control turned off and the heater on full hot into the car until the gauge dropped back to 90, at this point I realised that the fans on the radiator weren't working

We finally made it home and a friend who's a mechanic took a look and found a 10amp fuse for the EGR had blown, once replaced the fans came back into life and the warning light on the dash went out B)

nice simple problem and now fixed :D:D

Glad it's all sorted
